It seem's that BA and BT are among the most common chapter choices, What do you guy's think the weaknesses are in each, that can be exploited by the other chapter?

Well, I talked about Black Templars with one of the guys at GW and he described them to me as psychotic Bretonnians with guns. I was instantly sold.

To be honest, though, I always thought the two most popular chapters were the Dark Angels and Blood Angels (and Blood Angels don't even come close - everyone seems to like Dark Angels where I am). Why, I remember playing this one game called Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels... *degenerates into rambling about "the good old days"*

weaknesse in each well not alot in either but, as good as death company are they can be a liability when a 40 somthing point termie gets recruited, frenzy plus heavy weapons is bad, frenzy itself is not always a good thing as getting closer to opponents is not an ideal situation for a bolter armed marine 7/10 times, hmm reall expensive chapy! (chaplains and norm marines) hmmm i think thats about it

black templars weaknesses even less but i would say small numbers (even a heavilly scout augmented force is usally pretty small), the rightous zeal is not always a good thing like ba frenzy it forces em to move towards an opponent while not as bad for bt as they're mostly cc it's still not ideal, hmm being forced to take the emporers champ however good he is he still takes up valuable points, ohh certain things have been cut from their list ie whirlwinds and last one i think is no psykers they can't use libbys or =][='s so no assasins or really nifty stuff from the support codexs

This is a really hard question and I've been mulling it over for a few days, looking over both codexies. I believe theres no short answer, but I have come up with a few relative strengths and weaknesses, which I'm willing to take the time to share with you, should you care..

1.) While both are obviously CC oriented armies, Black Templars is a more pure CC force. In a straight up knock down fight Black Templars will eventually win out. Though the gap is more pronounced the more points your playing with.

a.) Black Templars Accept Any Challenge (AAC) Vow and additional HQ unit outweigh Blood Angels Death Company and Furious charge.

b.) Black Templars may take Terminators without worrying about losing any before deployment. (I believe a unit of Assault Terminators with the AAC vow and Furious Charge is a TRUE trump card in large point games.)

c.) Black Templar Troop choises are their backbone unit, while Blood Angels are either small support units or scout squads.

d.) Templars will often outnumber Blood Angels, their most common troops are 10 and 16 points, while Blood Angels often take 22 point models.

e.) Blood Angels have the speed advantage with MOST army builds. Jumps packs edge out Rightous Zeal.

f.) Blood Angels have better support options, with access to the glorious Baal Predator and Devistator Squads. (The Land Raider option is really not worth mentioning. BT can take more of them, but is still reguarded as a big point sink by most players. Like I said BT shine in large point games.)

With the previous points in mind, I gotta say Blood Angels are still my favorite army, but take much more finess and strategy to pull off a win. Templars are a brute force army. They are generally slow and lack the heavy support options of the Angels, such as the Baal. If you want to contend against such a pure CC army, you have to actually play to the mission objectives and use your jump packs to avoid Close Combat as long as possible while using your support options to maximum effect. That sounds pretty lame Im sure, but like I said it's difficult to beat BT with brute force. You can also take advantage of BT's Zeal move in this way to seperate the main force or get them moving in the wrong direction.

Against other armies I havn't givin as much thought, but I'd rather have speed than strength. Your play style is important when deciding between these 2 CC monster armies, or Space Wolves.

CONCLUSION: Most players would do well to take Black Templars, and in fact this is what they have done. If you pick Blood Angels you must remember that you are NOT in fact a pure CC army despite the fluff and rules. Playing too aggresively against CC monsters like BT, Tyranids, Orcs, ect. will quickly end in a loss.

...I hope that was clear and not terribly long.

BT don't have sargents. BT also don't have devastators. Both could very much be disadvantages. Still love em though.

Distinct advantage of BT is the LRC being able to be a dedicated transport. No other chapter has this.

I've got a copy of the BT codex I still have not read but I am a huge fan of the BA jump pack army (actually I play fleshtearers but I don't use the IA rules for them, just play them as blood angels). I find that in 2,000 pt games, 4 assault squads plus 3 tactical squads can rambo through just about anything with pressure applied in the right points. Of course charging into a brood of stealers is ridiculous but you can use the jump packs to maneuver around units like that and whale on softer targets. Tank heavy armies can give jump packing assault armies some issues but they get into cc so fast anyways it doesn't matter so much. Really fun army to play though.

are you serious???

BA are so easy to win with, i have both armies and i have to say no matter what army i play, i always win with blooad angels.

i mean being able to take whirlwinds, devestator squads... DEATH COMPANY.... the blood angels are much easyer to win with. just because BT can have 20 man squads dosent make them easy to win with... i take it you have never played with BT's before... there army lists are very much confined to troop choices...

on saturday i watched 2 black templar armies fall to blood angels... then i watched another black templar army fall to an eldar army, that had more guardians than anything else. blood angels are much more wide open in the way of choices and stratergies...

its funny because people have been thinking that BT's are these easy to win with power house army... far from it.

hmm they can be it depends on the users skill level and what he has taken but saying one list is more powerful than another is in itself stupid as no matter how strong you are their is always somone stronger
