Shooting Target Selection

Just reading up on the newest version of the rules and have a question. If you have multiple units in LOS of your archers, do they have to shoot at the closest? Or can they pick the unit to target. I thought you had to pick the closest, but in the RB, it gives an example of a bolt thrower shooting at a unit that is partially behind another unit. It is farther away, but can still draw a LOS. I could be confusing WFB and 40k rules.

This is one of those things that isn't explicitly mentioned in the rulebook and it confuses many players, not just those used to the 40k way of doing things. When shooting in Warhammer, you do not have to target the closest enemy, you can shoot at whatever is in range. You can even shoot enemy single models now even if they're close to friendly units (whereas before you couldn't shoot them if they were within 5" of a friendly unit of 5 or more models). To a shooter, pretty much everything is fair game in Warhammer, except perhaps ethereals (who can only be hurt by magical attacks, but if they shooters weapon is magical... I'll stop now...).

unlike 40K you can shoot at whatever you want as long as you can drw LOS to them, or if you want to shoot at multiple units, you can split your fire, like for example, a unit of 20 Crossbows against 2 units of Gobbo Wolf riders you can shot 10 shots at each if you wish, though i think it still applies with the new rules, have'nt got the RB at hand :(

On page 25 in the rulebook it says, after you shoot with guess weapons, that you nominate 1 unit to shoot with, and 1 unit to be shot at. So missile units can't divide their shots. This is also suggested under the rule "Line of sight" on page 26, where it says that models in a shooting unit that do not have line of sight to the target automatically miss. The same for units out of range.
