Neither- I use Destroyers/SFs/MoWs etc (please state)
Haha- who uses a Fleet?
I use a balanced mix of Phoenixes and BSs
I prefer a balanced mix of any other combo of ships (please state)
With my fleet destroyed, and me looking at rebuilding up a new one, I have this to consider:
Do I mass-produce Phoenixes or BS?
Advantages of Phoenixes:
*Faster (by quite a lot)
*Cheaper (5K Metal and 5K Kryppy per ship does add up)
*Consumes less fuel
Advantages of BSs:
*More Structure points
*Higher transport capacity
*Don't cost Spice
*Interesting initials (admit it, you were thinking it)
So, given that I currently can't decide what to mass-produce, I thought I'd put it to the vote to see what everyone else builds.
I build battleships because most of the time you will be using transmitters with attacking ships so I find the extra speed of the phoenix is wasted and the battleship speed is closer to the transmitters. I also prefer a more resilient ship as they are less likely to be killed and need replacing. Plus the difference in structure and shields is greater than the difference in the extra firepower of the phoenix if you get what I mean.
Edit: The phoenixes I have and use is 80 which is enough to crack a large dome. I use these when a large dome and small defences is all I need to beat so I can get the raid done quicker and cheaper. Though the main attack fleet is Battleships.

BEN DIESEL FTW!!!
As with no1, battleships comprise 90% of my war fleet. However, the speed of battle ships compared to pho's in relation to your transmitters depends entirely on your diffusion and warp ranks. For me, the transmitters are somewhat faster than battle ships, so they battle ships end up slowing them down. For this reason, I use pho's for quick runs, and though they're significantly faster than the transmitters, at the same time, they don't slow them down.
For busting moderately defended bases and grounded fleets, battle ships are invaluable. For one thing, as no1 mentioned, their shields are much stronger than the pho's. After reading a bit on the forums, it seems that the shields do most of the protecting; once they fall, virtually any ship becomes prey to enemy fire, regardless of defense. I've found this generally to be the case. What's more, if you run a battle sim, you'll find that it takes far more pho's to defeat enemy ships, as compared to battleships. All other things being equal, 81 battle ships to destroy 50 enemy battle ships without taking any casualties. With pho's, destroying those same 50 battle ships without taking casualties requires 136. Basically, our battle ships are made for battle, whereas the pho's are better adapted for quick raids with low defenses.
A note on destroyers: For stubborn turtles, I've been told that destroyers are actually more cost-effective than battle ships.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
OK, cheers for that guys. I hadn't actually thought about the Transmitters slowing down the Phoenixes.
Looks like BSs, it is.
