Not long ago, I was wandering through the dingy alleys and brightly lit techincal access paths that fill the back of LO when I stumbled across my own user area. A great and spacious place it was, filled with almost nothing. Hardly any friends, precious few updates, and no blogs to be seen as far as the distant horizon itself. "By Great Blackhat Himself!" I exclaimed (The supreme being of this great realm) for truly it was a terrible sight. I wandered on downtrodden until I noticed that one area was bulging, stuffed full to the gills and throbbing with seemingly unnatural power.
Cautiously I approached, tentative hands flexing as I stretched out my cursor to click on my list of subscribed threads. All at once, in a great flurry, 293 of the little critters burst out at me! Some gibbered while others, roared and whooshed. Most had fallen into what seemed a great slumber. Perhaps waiting for some itinerant necroposter, for that's what those terrible beings are called, to raise them back to terrible, irrelevant undeath. With great alacrity I whipped out my Notifikashuntikbox, a fearsome weapon in the right and the wrong hands and laid waste with abandon. The fight was a dificult one but finally after clearing six screen of the beggars I found myself with ten golden nuggets, ten tiny pearls of wisdom that I restored to the daily notification queue.
Finally as I sheathed my fearsome weapon, awed a little myself that I have the fortune to wield it, a thought pounced on my mind. I haven't been able to shake it since so I thought I should post it here for all who find this sorry tale and live to post a reply.
How many threads are you subscribed to?
Zara... a very nice introduction...
I am only to 711...
Thanks to all the people showing faith in me
I sometimes feel that everyone will leave me and they will be on their own...
LOL I have to admit, half way through that I was like "what the hell is he talking about" then I just figured you were talking about thead subscriptions since thats the subject line, in which case I have 0, I only subscribe when its something I want a fast answer to, or want to keep track of, or my own threads, but since they don't get any lovin' I have unsubscribed the lot!
Er who moved the thread?
I think my attempt to three-birds-with-one stone has gone awry. I put this in general hobby discussion as a spoof of GW fiction. I was hoping people would like my original approach and we could get a conversation rolling about how important fiction is as a part of the hobby. I also thought it would also serve to highligh some of the perhaps less well known functionality in the site and third show off my fiction skills...stones two and three if you will.
Any chance the thread can be teleported back?
If this is indeed a pukka attempt to encourage fiction submissions from posters, might I suggest you start an appropriate thread in the appropriate forum which folk will be able to understand without having to do mental gymnastics to try and determine what the heck the thread is all about??
"Your failure is dire", a man cloaked in a dark hood said as he stepped forward ito the light.
"It was a good attempt, but these fools have a hard time understanding anything beyond the simplest of things. Let me help you..." As his voice trailed off, the man flung his cape open and brought fourth a great, two-handed blade and held it above his head.
"This", he said, "is the mighty blade of LO." The blank surface of the blade looked to be alive with 2077 bright, blue runes, some so bright that they were difficult to look directly at, while others only shone with a faint light, barely distinguishable.
Good enough for ya?
That's more like it. I got the idea for this thread while I was reading another, what's the most powerful unit setup thread. 'Me', I thought,'what can I do to try something a little different?'
Here we are.
I thought there have been a few threads recently about how much of a role fiction plays in the hobby, what with the new rulebook having a hugely expanded background section and the Horus Heresy series coming out.
In some ways the little stories are just as important to a lot of players as the substance of the hobby.
