Welcome to Librarium Online!
Some would agree that tabletop gaming is for nerds, I just think it is a good diversion from the depths of depravity that my job requires. Anyways here is a funny little movie that some co-workers told me about. when the page comes up click on the part that says "WATCH THIS MOVIE" Hopefully you'll find it as funny as I did.

As I have stated time and again, yes and no.
You see I define a nerd as any person who excells at one specific region of study or hobby.
So therefore anyone with a particular forte toward any interest is in fact a nerd.
Thus there are gaming nerds, roleplaying nerds, computer nerds, football nerds, painting nerds, car nerds, etc.
So yes it is because we're all nerds in our own way, and no, because it's for a specific branch of nerd-dom.

HA! you guys should be a 53 year old male in the southern USA bible belt.
Being called a nerd is nothing. LOL

It's a good cartoon funny stuff, I don't think you can stereotype gamers just like you can't stereotype any other people.
I know a few gamers who are nerds and do nothing but try to protect there pens and re-programme computers constantly, while i also know alot of dudes who go out play sports and get drunk with me. It is a strange world.
All fear the potato of wrathe for he has many unseen powers. Such as growing underground with roots and stuff.
I havn't really been called a nerd(mostly because when i'm not playing warhammer me and my friends are doing sports) but i have gotten funny looks when people ask me about the game. I tell them that it would take hours to explain the game to them so i'll just give them the jist of it. It sounds somthing like this "So every weekend or so we bring an army of small plastic men that we spent hundreds of dollars and hours of work on and set them up on a piece of styrafoam. Then we play loud music, Role dice, and swear at each other for hours on end.
"Everyone should try arrogance, it's absolutely wonderful. You can go out, do whatever you want, and go home. And the best part is, no matter what you do, or how much you ***** everything up, nothing's ever your fault because 'thou art god'."

That is perhaps the most accurate description I have ever read.Originally posted by IGgeneral@Sep 26 2004, 158

Yeah, we're Nerds. Who cares. I'm confident with who I am and so are my wife and two kids, so I really don't care what anyone outside of my family unit thinks. Boo to them!
Anyhow, I descend from a long line of gamers actually.
My grandfather, a retired Sgt. Major in the Army, was a gamer until the day he died two years ago. In fact, he was playing Vampire: The Masquerade the night before he died at the awfully young age of 58 years old. (Thanks to the mass amounts of defoliants used in the Vietnam war)
My Uncle is also a gamer. We play Shadowrun, GURPS and MtG together whenever we get the chance.
I guess it's all just an accepted practice in my family.
that is why i like the store i go to near camp lejeune to play. it has a very, very wide demografic of players. you have some of your steriotypical players, plus, a variety of others. one guy owns a tatoo parlor, big, tatooed, peirced dude you wouldn't want to mess with. there are a couple marine captains who play there, along with a couple Staff sgts, a 1st sgt, and a master gunnery sgt. middle to high school age kids, it is great, cause of the variety of people there. and everyone is totally treated equally there. also a wide selection of ethnic groups. there are even a few cases of father and son playing there.
any one who wants to give us crap because of the game, to hell with them. majority of gamers are good, upstanding citizens. so we aren't out smoking pot, getting into fights at local bars, knocking girls up, or getting knocked up, by complete strangers? i guess we should feel bad about that.

If you're worried that other people might think you're a nerd, you probably care too much about your ego. I've met some of the best people playing D&D, warhammer, Axis & Allies even chess. Anyone that would actually call you a nerd is trying to make himself feel better, but most everyone is mature enough to not really care if you play a tabletop hobby game in your spare time.
For if one gave, he dared assert
He knew that man was repentant
For many a man is so hard of heart
He cannot weep even though he suffers sorely
Two things, yes we're nerds in the eyes of your average person. But who cares, i do what makes me happy, and nobody else.
And that video was kind of gay, ive seen some HILARIOUS vids like that, that make fun of gaming(mostly D&D, ther was one that literally had me crying it was so damn funny) so its not like i didnt think it was funny because i was offended. I just thought it was sloooow, the dialogue was boring and not very funny, and the voices were horrible. lol. The only funny part was when the cover-save stopped the bullet and i love watching SMs die
