Do you ever wonder how deep space is? Is deep really the correct word? Maybe, long, or wide, or tall is a better description. Many people think space is infinite. But how can something be infinite? At our level of comprehension, the only thing that can be fully infinite is a circle. It has neither a beginning nor an end, yet we can see every point on it. So, using this reasoning, can one deduce space is a circle? Wouldn't it be possible for the beginning to be the same as the end? Im reminded of the Trainamn Scene in Matrix Revolutions. You leave one end, but come in the the same direction you left.

So, when we look out in space, what do we see? We see stars, and blackness. Well, What if those stars are just...our solar ststem? Unbelievable? Not yet. Think about if you were in a 2 dimensional plane, in the middle of a circle. Like in oldschool Asteroids. If you move in a straight line, and cross the circle boundary, you'd com in the opposite side, moving in the same direction. Couldn't light behave the same way? If you look up at one single star, you see light coming at a precise angle. Well, no matter how you look at it, that light could be our sun. Depending on which direction you look, the reference in a 3d plane changes. Deep, huh?

So, you might ask, if all the stars we see are light, why isn't the sky filled completely with stars, aka our sun? Well, if you go out a circle, and come in the other side, to the very middle, you've traveled the distance of the diameter of the circle. But what if you go through again? Have you only still gone the diameter of the circle, or have you gone twice it, or 4 times it? Depending on how you look at it, you could have traveled an infinite amount of times. We know light isn't powerfull enough to travel extreme distances in a small amount of time, so, maybe all the light just haven't gotten here yet.

Your descriptions..long..wide..tall..deep..only work if you are trying to describe space from a given point of origin. I believe a better word to describe space as a whole would be..expansive.

You are attempting to give shape to the shapeless (theory) we use the term infinite not because we believe it, but because we don't know for sure.

    Anyway that's my 2 cents.

The real question is whether or not the universe will stop expanding and begin collapsing again. Perhaps into one massive singularity.

I have been told that the universe is a finite place that is indeed expanding, but they do not know if or when it will stop and start coming back.

well once enough suns supernova and turn into blackholes then they will all eventually suck each other into one another until it's either just one uber black hole or they explode.

yeah if i had one question that would be answered it would be, whats at the end of space?

I really like the definition of space given in Hitchhiker's Guid to the Galaxy.

Space is big, really big. Think of the biggest thing you can immagine it, then double it. Space is really really big.

Or something along the lines of that.

If the universe is a finite space expanding, what if you could move faster than it is expanding? What would stop you going further?

Some light from stars doesn't reach us is because it can't reach us. If you see a really really bright buld from a mile away, it doesn't look so bright. Same thing with stars, the light just runns out as it were.

Well there isn't an edge of the universe in any real sense. The universe encompasses all of existence.

Space. It seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you.
