Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well i was looking at both species recently for a science fiction story contest
Before people start telling me how they're a plagerism of the Nids i should point out that
I like the Zerg because their background is more "clean cut" than that of the Tyranids. we know who made them and why for example
I like the Tyranids because they are more alien, all they do is strip worlds of life and in my oppinion at least are scarier than the Zerg
“Someone I know calls a Sphinx a Sphincter I really don’t have the heart to correct them
“So you want to be made feel like a small boy and dominated do you? How about you dress up as Micky Mouse and I‘ll hit you with a baseball bat until you pass out or die?
I like the Zerg more (way cooler name aswell: ZZEEEEUURRRRGGH)
But then again, Starcraft >>>> everything else, even if everything in it evolved from the 40k game that GW pulled out of.
Zerg Zerg Zerg
The wonders of 100 zerglings. And they can be prodcued sooo damn fast. What a wonderfull game even now many years later.
Tyranids don't have the edge that the Zerg do, Tyranids are too independant (well sorta)
The Zerg can be made to attack planets as the guys with psi emitters see fit.
Zerg Zerg Zerg
Archaon's Top Tip for profiting from the End Time: Pillage before you burn
When I say jump you don't ask me 'How high?' maggot! You jump!
It's pretty plane and simple that it's zerg.
They have Kerigan.
A youth with his first cigar makes himself sick; a youth with his first girl makes other people sick. - Mary Wilson Little
i like the zerg. they have a cooler name, are more complex and have an awesome chain of command. But with tyranids have awesome models.
"Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever."
- Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821)
"Victory goes to the player who makes the next-to-last mistake."
- Chessmaster Savielly Grigorievitch Tartakower (1887-1956)
"Don't be so humble - you are not that great."
- Golda Meir (1898-1978) to a visiting diplomat
"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
- Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
I like how the Zerg have a goal, they want to assimilate everything they come across in order to become the perfect creature. As far as I can see the Hive Mind's only goal is to fill it's collective belly. And I don't care what anybody says, Sarah Kerrigan is hot in a wierd, wrong sorta way. :shifty:
It doesn't take a telepath to know what YOU'RE thinking!
I say GODDAMN! I NEED to play that game before I play Starcraft: Ghost (the first PS2 game I will be buying after silent hill 4).
StarCraft has everything. Badass single player with badass story, badass quotes, and badass multiplayer.
Damn you bastards, you made me want to play the game again.. now many hours I could be painting will be put into this instead, making me hurry to get all my gobbos done for tourney.
Zerg are cool, I don't think I'd have bothered with SC without the Zerg... But they're too "moral" as a species: they pick and choose specific targets (Protoss), create "individuals" (Cerebrates, Kerrigan), they're greedy (the Overmind's insistence to set on Aiur to take advantage of the Khaydarin crystals, underestimating the Protoss and risking the entirety of the Zerg swarm). Worst of all, they were artifically created by someone else (although on a cooler note, they ate their creators ).
The Tyranid is a seemingly naturally evolved beast that has a goal: To survive. To do that it will eat everything in its path, absorbing materials and genetic data to further the hive. It is more animalistic, feeling more like a force of nature that has simply come here to feed on the corrupted Man, the arrogant Eldar, the naive Tau, the dumb Ork... Everything is prey.
Also, the Tyranid does not have the weakness of a singular physical manifestation of the hivemind... For the physical body of the Great Devourer is the race men know as "Tyranids". To kill the Hivemind requires the instantaneous annihilation of all Tyranids in existence, not something that'd be likely to happen.
We also know very little solid knowledge on the history of the Tyranid... And this is good. After all, the Tyranid does not bother with reminiscing such insignificant details, and the prey certainly has no way of divining such information.
This is why I like the Tyranid more... And I hope it stays this way in the new Codex. I do hope there's more fluff of Tyranid attacks and behaviour in this galaxy, but I hope GW is smart enough to leave ancient Tyranid history alone.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
It has to be the Zerg
When I first started the hobby I remember asking a staff member about the Tyranids and over half my questions were answered with "nobody knows".
How do you justify why your army is somewhere when you have no idea at all how it thinks?
Breakthrough- from what i've read the life of a Tyranid is very expendable, the idea of them making a fighting retreat is a little odd...
Assassination- can they even tell which one the leader is? Wouldn't that be a job of a Genestealer cult?
You dont. This is part of what makes the tyranids so horrifying, the fact they cannot be secondguessed--who knows what abominations you will face next? How do you justify why your army is somewhere when you have no idea at all how it thinks?
Also, I rather loathe the zerg. They put their trust in individuals for gods sake, how dare they call themselves a hive! And they let themselves be bossed around by other species.Er.....its the nids that want to make the perfect killing machine. Zerg are just bustboys for other creatures :ph34r:I like how the Zerg have a goal, they want to assimilate everything they come across in order to become the perfect creature. As far as I can see the Hive Mind's only goal is to fill it's collective belly
