Have you noticed people often seem to get the wrong impression about gaming? I have seen people walkpast GW and shake thier heads indisgust. Friends of ours said they were scared to go near the place. Maybe its my GW but personally looks like anynormal one. And "outisiders" often think that things away over priced (they're not the only one :shifty: ). Like they think (for example) that a predator, or a rhino is $100 ot $150 dollars.
Also when people hear the word "Warhammer" they automatically lable you as a nerd. Really ticks me off.
Are you to discriminated agaisnt becasue you collect, paint, and play with plastic and/or metal minatures? lets hear.
Well most people will claim this hobby to be expensive, but it isn't because the army that costed you 500 bucks will provide with countless hours of gaming, painted and converting. It is expensive to those you simply want to play, but not to hardcore gamers. I just came back from my local store to buy an Orc regiment, this will take about 20 hours of building and painting....
While they think they shake their head in shame, they are heaing to the nearest tavern to spend their paychecks on ale......... or outrageously expensive clothes, or even drugs :glare:
If its expensive and something nonmainstream they tend to cast it out of
the society. But as of my answer...I've been finding when I introduce
painted models to people they say wow thats really cool, you have a talent
for painting, and i try to bring them to the hobby that way.
But on second thought there are stereo types within our gaming group.
Such as newbies, intermediates, and advanced peeps.
Then inbetween them, you've got the nerds, the artists, the goths, and
If you want proof. Vin Deisel was on Conan Obrien and he plays Dungeon
Master. I wasnt expecting anything like it!
-HONORABLE MENTIONS IN BLITZKRIEG PAINTING COMP-
"THAT I.G. GUY WITH THAT OVERDEVELOPED TRIGGER FINGER"
The thing is, those who walk past GW see the Black shop sign, with the red and yellow letters in a font that hasn't aged very well, and the sign itself looks very 80's no matter how new the shop is.
Then there is the window dressing, posters of marines and various xeno races, all with a look of hatred in their eyes, brandishing various weaponary all with the intent of killing/destroying something, next to which you see a turning display unit of the various models, and then where you can see inside, you see lots of young kids/teenagers, and then the veteren gamers, who really should have grown out gaming a long time ago - according to the passers by.
But how many of us have passed shops that we would never venture into for whatever reason, whether it be stigma associated with the shop, or the products it sells, or that we have no interest in, so it is just human nature to snub that which we don't understand or have little or no interest in.
Space Wolves are badasses that operate just barely within the rules.
13th Co. didn't even know there were rules applying to how badass they could be.
... and Daemonhunters make it three - now just need a spare room to store it all!!!
yeh i get discriminated against all the time. by my best friend. :o but hes into surfing and stuff and he goes to me oh man you waste all your money on plastic and i just reply eh you waste all your money on a stick of foam . you see their are things that are more over priced than gw (is that possible :o ) clothes being the biggest culprit 80 dollars for a shirt that cost abotu 2bucks to make.
well back to my friend when he replys to my comment about hey i use my surfboard i cant help thinking man your a hypocrit i use my models as well.
This may be shocking, but I've never once been herassed for gaming. Been made fun of for being foriegn and relatively poor a few times, but that's about it. Most of my freinds and family don't really pay much attention to it. Some of them ask what all the little red guys on my bookshelf are,and some of them pick them up and mess with them for a few minutes, but that's pretty much the most attention they get from other people. My cousin's daughter likes to play with them (and gnaw on them unfortunately). I have an aunt that's convinced they're satanic, but nobody ever pays attention to her because she's friggin' mental.
too true too true
my "friends2 think im a freek...but being 6ft helps alot
My advice covert platform shoes
There is no arguing with the barrel of a gun
I was intoduced to warhammer when my friend showed me some of his dwarf warriors so i loved warhammer from then and bought the fantasy starter kit , which was probaly a waste as i only use the rule book from them, but none of my friends know aboiut me and warhammer.
"Fight like gobbos"- Skarsnik
I've never gotten any flak for playing warhammer, except from one of my friends, but he buys manga comics, anime movies and what not for ALOT of money. That's just as nerdy
I did hear that in the UK kids walk into the shop, shouts 'YOU'RE ALL GAY, THATS A GAY GAME YOU GAYS' and walk off. I guess it just depends on what kind of people you have in each country.
Nah, we get that here in Canada, too. (See? We're not all really polite, trust me.)
I was playing a game one Sat, when 3 kids walk into the store. Two of them seem mildly interested in the painted LotR stuff that was sitting over on a table, but one of them walks over and looks at the game I was playing.
I was losing quite badly at the time, and I told him as much.
'No, you're not. Nobody's winning, you're just playing with little plastic toys! Get a life!'
It went on like this. I didn't really care-I wanted the little prick to leave, because he was interrupting my game, but the guy I was playing with took it a little more personally, I think. He told me later that he was pretty close to unloading on the kid, but, before that happened, the guys working booted him out.
