I think that 40k needs a new army badly. It however should not have anything to do with the Imperium (not another SM & IG spin off like GK or So.
They should not have a tiny list like Tau and Necrons either.
Number 1 thing the army should have is their standerd issue weapon be Str 3 AP 4 Rapid Fire but up to half of the sqaud can also have Str 5 AP - Assult 2 weapons. Leads to more interesting tactics.
As a general canon rule, Strength 4 AP 5 is as good as it gets for basic weapons, and even Armies like Tau have tradeoffs for breaking this rule (reduced WS comes to mind).
And who says Tau are tiny. Combined w/ Forgeworld, downloadable rules, etc. they are perhaps one of the faster-growing armies in the game. With new Turrets, Tetras, Human Auxiliaries, Rail Rifles, Pirahnas, and heavy Gun Drones, they've suddenly had more choice. True, they need Wargear though.
If anything else, before we make a new army, we should update the armies that REALLY need updating, eg. Eldar and Orks.
We need updates rather than new stuff.
unless the new stuff includes squats..... maybe not...
Life is too serious to be taken seriously
Another army is the last thing 40k needs, it would be just another project to take attention away from the armies that desperately need updates, like pretty much everyone except for the Imperials and the Tyranids. They should work on fixing what they already have before they even think about adding something new.
armies take time.
they're already working on alien hunters. but its pretty much impossible to just 'make' another army like eldar or orks. It takes ages, and these armies have been around for years if not decades collecting fluff and having rules improved.
"DICE FOR THE DICE GOD!"
And the almighty Dice God said to his followers "Thou shalt not speak ye words "anything but a one" For thou whoever'st speaketh this blasphemy will be cursed with thy rolls being of one".
I agree. "Overloading" a setting by including too much fractions is really not a bright thing.
If there would be something like a new army I'd however go for a non-Imperium human nation. After all, there have got to be planets who got lost after the huge warp storms that have not already been re-integrated into the Imperium. So why shouldn't it be possible to have another human realm with a completely other way of life out there?
This way you would get a new army with some interesting fluff without introducing a completely new race.
Hey, did I hear someone shouting squats over there?
"Do you want your heretic rare, medium or well done, Lord Inquisitor?"
Bring the Squats back!!!
Yea the emperor forbid a races completly alien to others with a differnt mind set and evolutionary pattern that humans have never met before would do something other than what the imperials do!!!!!!!!11!!one!!1As a general canon rule, Strength 4 AP 5 is as good as it gets for basic weaponsI agree but seriously, it would take what, hiring 4 more people to atleast start designing a new army?We need updates rather than new stuff.Fantasy is overloaded, not 40k, they are all on one world and I see no room for it all, 40k is in space so their is near inf room.I agree. "Overloading" a setting by including too much fractions is really not a bright thing. They drop them cause they were corny, its bad enouph eldar are space elves and we got space orks, 40k is exactly the same as fantasy but in space.Bring the Squats back!!!

But unlike the eldar the space dwarves make sense. The Squats are short, techinicly mionded, Irish+scotish+norse pepole in both fantasy and 40K, the Elves/Eldar are a cheep Rip off of a very good concept from another world. (AKA midle earth.) The squats actualy fit 40K better than the Eldar.Originally Posted by Osaria
