Now, this post is for all of you tennis fans out there (and I surly hope there is some...), and it comes to discuss the world 1st seed player, non other than the swiss Roger Federer (and please pronounce it with a bit of french Je and not the anglo-saxon Ge, because thats how its pronounced...[BTW i'm not french that i'm so meticulous about his Gallic pronounciation, i'm just pissed off at people calling him Roger...]).
With this win in the prestigious Wimbeldon Tournement, the third in a row, Federer joins a club inhabited only by two other men: the man who won Wimbeldon seven (!) times, although not in a row, the American Pitt Sampras, and the legendary Swidish, 5 times i a row winner of Wimbeldon, Bjorn Borg.
Also, with 36 games won in a row on grass, he is just the second best player ever on grass (the most difficult of surfeces) after Borg, who has 41, and it looks he is going to surpass Borg in the next year.
And also, with his 3-0 wins against both the world's third seed, the Australian Lleyton Hewitt, and the second seed, the American Andy Rod****, it looks like no one can challange Federer on grass at the present time.
But, alas, with all his world renown and fame, he WAS beaten both in the Australian Open and the French Open, and by relatively unknown players.
So, comes my big quastion, do you think he is (or going to be) the world's best player, or just some talented guy who does everything to break records on grass and isn't really good at anything else? and do you think he has a chance at breaking Sampras' record?
I'm not a big tennis fan, but from what I've seen Federer is a (Tennis) genius. The man is perfect at Tennis.
"But, alas, with all his world renown and fame, he WAS beaten both in the Australian Open and the French Open, and by relatively unknown players. "
- w00t Marat Safan! He beat Hewitt + Federer!
Federer may have had a few stumbles, but he looks well on the road to becoming the Don Bradman of Tennis.
Same here, from what i've seen he's got a very promising future in the world of tennis.
