well, i've noticed that the majority of warhammer players are intelligent.
Speculation as to why this is the case?
My best guess is that Warhammer needs a certain amount of intelligence to win, to strive in it.
I guess this is where the term nerd comes from. being good at something.
I would say that 99% of the members on LO are intelligent, through either there posts or actions.
Do people share the same view as me, or am i just an elitest barstard
I have no idea if Warhammer players are more intelligent than other groups on the internet or in real life. I would say that most of the members of this forum appear to be above the average smartness for people on online forums, although I suppose that says more about the stupidity that can sometimes be observed elsewhere online. Not that I don’t appreciate the fact that people around here are usually smart enough to follow the rules and not poke the moderators with sticks far too often. Thanks for that guys. ^_^
I’m pretty sure, though, that if you took all Warhammer players in the world and put them through an IQ test, the results would follow a normal distribution with the mean around 100 points, as is the overall human average. However, I also do think that Warhammer players might appear smarter because of their personality types. They’re people who enjoy reading up on rules, spending hours on painting tiny details on tiny figures, and obsess over a board game that is really a rather advanced form of chess. This kind of people would probably appear ‘smart’ to others, because, well, let’s face it: being a Warhammer player is being a bit nerdy. And since ‘nerd’ is defined as being an overly intelligent but socially inept person, Warhammer players willingly or not get labelled in the same fashion.
However, that’s not saying that Warhammer doesn’t attract smart people. I’m sure it does. And I know for sure that it attracts people who are creative and imaginative, which are virtues at least as important as intelligence, but not measured in any IQ test. Warhammer is a hobby that challenges you intellectually and creatively, and as such I’m sure it has a positive influence on people’s mental development. There are much worse things we could be spending our time on, when you think about it, and that we chose Warhammer over that must say something about our intelligence after all.
"Girls are nice and cuddly on the outside, and freaky on the inside." ~ Lost Nemesis.
One thing is for sure, that no retards / people who have the social manners of one stay in the game for long - nor on the forums here.
One thing a really good teacher said to us in an assembly years ago.
"The definition of a nerd is someone who's different, someone who does things that other people don't do, so in relativity, we're all nerds, because not one of us is the same as the other..."
So even if we are nerds, its good to be a nerd, because its what seperates us as part of the human race. Just hink how boring it would be if we all looked the same, had the same hobbies, and dislike the same things.
So if being intelligent makes me a nerd, then I'm glad, because I certainly don't want to be like anyone else, I want to be me, because that's who I am. So if someone calls me a nerd now, I'll stand up and reply with dignity and pride "Yes I am a nerd, and proud of it!"
I really like that. I might use it sometime..."The definition of a nerd is someone who's different, someone who does things that other people don't do, so in relativity, we're all nerds, because not one of us is the same as the other..."
Personally it appears that Warhammer attracts more intelligent people but I think it's more likely that forums attract more intelligent people because I have met complete idiots who have played the game but like horseman says they don't usually stay around for long on forums.
Plus there's also the fact that it requires a great deal of intelligence to remember such things for the games, which characters will hit with what dice roll, what races armour saves are, fluff from tonnes of different armies, etc etc.
Its a lot of info to take in, but if you remember even a portion of it then you must have a pretty good intelligence rating.
good point ghost.
i do know some idiots who play, but the fraction of which?
i also know some players who are as tatical and canny as a potatoe, but intelligent.
I won't say that warhamer-players are smarter than other, I know a bunch who isn't smart at all.
I will go with Grephoun on this... if you maked an IQ test of all warhammer-gamers around the world you would probably get the an avarege score on about 100, perhaps a little over but not that much.
But yes Ghost, there is a lot of things you have to remember when you play warhammer, but then again allmost everyone can learn to remember certain things like tables and so
I'd also put forward the fact that even warhammer players who are bad at the game, as well as those who are good, are usually fairly intelligent - but intelligence has many forms in life. While someone who's good at 40k may not be so booksmart, someone who's booksmart may not be good at 40k. Someone who has a fair grasp of what we call "common sense" may be good at neither. But i have to agree, i have noticed, that the majority of 40k players are smart in many senses of the word, and have a good grasp of common sense and a fair amount of booksmarts.
I don't know if we could actually back this up with evidence, by getting all the members to post info about themselves, and i don't know if it means anything, but i did an IQ test a little while ago, and it came up 141, and i'm at grammar school at the moment, as is monsieurcartier, who is no longer active on LO due to internet problems. I like to think of myself as pretty intelligent(although many people on this forum may deny that:tongue: ), but thats obviously for others to decide.
The only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people are awesome and can kick your ass.
"War does not determine who is right - only who is left."
I toke one not so long ago, somewhy the whole nation (Denmark) was tested, and I scored 147 on the test, but I've tried much harder test than that one and scored less than I did, so I will say that you can't count one an IQ test that much.
And yes there are many forms of intelligent but the one who got tested in an IQ test is only the logical intelligent.
One of my favorite theoretics (don't know if it is spelled that way) is Howard Gardner, who wrote a book about the many intelligens, and says that there are nine intelligens.
I've used the book alot in my study and now I'm a Social Educator with a bachelor-degree
