I don't know/I don't care.
The question should read:
If the U.S.A. decided to become completely neutral without offering troops for or against the U.N. could that political body adequately police the world?
Sorry to produce a second poll so soon mods I promise no more for several months, but I blame Wolf_Pack for this thread.
Seriously, if you think this is possible maybe you should lobby your politicians and then we can lobby our politicians to make it happen.
I would love for our military budget to come down as more and more nations around the world demonstrated the capability to assume a larger role in their own defense. :w00t:

For the sake of the poll just imagine that America has declared neutrality and will not interfere in world politics again come hell or high water.Originally Posted by onlainari

Slightly off-topic, am I the only person who sees the irony here?Originally Posted by onlainari

Bugger it, I just made another topic almost exactly the same as this one
Great minds think alike?
I think the UN cuold police the world if America was neutral. The European Union is wealthier than any of the rogue states and couple them with China (who are, I think, also on the UN security council), what the hell could the Saddams of this world do against that? Jack, that's what. Even India or Pakistan would be hard pressed to fight Europe, Russia and China together, numerically speaking. And that's assuming the UN don't have better technology than they guy's they're fighting, which they probably would.
I think the thing that makes people assume this will never happen is that most westerners think of China as being a rogue state rather than one of the largest members of the UN and they forget to count them. Probably because of the media reporting on human rights abuses, we assume that there are sanctions on them or something, but no, China is big in the UN.
It is a very hypothetical question though.

Nope. UN has sorta turned into a big beurocratical dinosaur. I don't think it could police the world in ints own.
I believe the UN could police the world without the USA military. Heck we've been doing it for years. No offence to any American soldiers, but, with the exception of Desert Storm/Shield, American Peace keepers don't exist. I'm not sure about actual numbers, but, I have NEVER seen an American in the baby blues. I have done stints with the UN and I have never seen an American on actual UN duty.
