now. is this movie going to wreck one of the best game series ever?
Doom 1 started a revolution in 3d gaming. sure wolfenstein 3d kicked it off, but doom really pushed it to the limits at the time. Doom 2 was even better, pushing it even further. doom 3 scared the crap out of everybody.
now, this movie looks set to destroy a dynasty of brilliant gaming.
the doom fanboy in me is crying
I don't think it'll really reflect too much on the game. The games will always be great whether this move is great or terrible.
I mean it's not like previous bad video game movies had any negative effect on the games. Take street fighter or final fantasy, both crappy movies and both excellent game series.
I wouldn't worry yourself about it, you can never underestimate a human being's ability to ignore what it doesn't like. People remember the good and quickly forget the bad. Unless it's really really bad in which case it'll just become something all the fans can laugh at, as long as they don't take it too seriously.
"You challenge me knowing that I am Xiahou Dun!?"
Yeah I feel the same way, a friend showed me some trailers from the movie, they even put 1st person camera-views in it (a LOT).
I think the movie is just gonna be some PC game without controls whichs ends the same over and over again.
Really one of those movies with cool special effects but nothing interesting other then that.
They tried to give it a story by making the monsters some sort of bio-engineered test uberfighters. but ofcourse the experiments went wrong, and all the crap that follows can be predicted by a 3-year-old.
I might rent it when it goes to the shops, but I'm definetly not gonna go to the cinema for that movie.
Chaos does not need explaining! guess what? Chaos cannot be explained!Originally Posted by BobaHat
Deal with it. It's nothing new. Tolkein fans around the world were up in arms after the LoTR series, as were Resident Evil fans after those movies. I've never played Mortal Kombat (so sue me), but I bet the film was nothing like the game either.Originally Posted by bonjordo
A movie that was *exactly* like Doom 3 wouldn't sell. Why? Because it's just dark room after dark room with some monsters in each, and a bloke with a shotgun. Just the same as making a movie from a Resident Evil game script would be kinda boring, because again, it would just be a series of rooms with monsters, only with herbs and strange shaped keys, with some of those infamous "Squeaky door" animations between each scene.
I will cry when a Half-Life movie is made. If I were you I would just spare yourself the pain and just *not* see it. The Rock's in it, it must be bad.
Games ≠ Movies.
- Watch this space.
Traditionally Doom offered one thing- utter mindless violence!!!!
Doom 3 was where they made it more survival Horror and i'll judge the movie as a different animal when the time come... chill, relax tis just a movie
I still hate Twiglets!
lol the movie looks really weird with its first person sequences.
As for other game movies, Mortal Kombat (the first one) was actually very loyal to the game (Although the second one dire). Street Fighter was so bad its funny but had very little to do with the game, Resident Evil films yet again didn't have much to do with the game although to be honest it would be an extremely boring film if it was loyal.
Then there is the travesty against gaming that is the Super Mario Bros. film (I actually own this just because it's hard to get hold of). It has barely any connection to Mario except some of the names.
Street Fighter was pretty bad... the only character who was actively brilliant was General M Bison "For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday." Utter freakin' genius!

but i don't think the Rock is too bad actually, sure most of his films suck but Walking Tall is great!
PLAN CLAN MAN!!
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man- S. Johnson
lol that's the only reason I still watch it sometimes. He absolutely made that film. His lines were just genious. Shame he died after that came outOriginally Posted by Shadows Coil
