Time to throw another topic at you.
I was wondering about you're thoughts about Pornography? Is it right? How far should it go? What are your experiences? Things like that.
Remember lads and girls, lets keep this civilised. And also watch out for religious/moral beliefs as well.
I think it depends on whether the performers are voluntary (eg Jenna Jameson who owns her own company) or crack addicted street kids being exploited by gangsters.
Briefly, I don't think there's anything wrong with pornography per se, but I think that the industry has in the past been very exploitative. I also think kids shouldn't be exposed to too much (or the wrong sort of) porn as it could warp their expectations of sex and make it difficult to form relationships later in life. Porn can be healthy or just plain BAD depending on it's quality and the circumstances of it's production.
Good topic Yoss, I was just thinking we need a new one (Y)

Can someone come up with a meaningful definition of pornography?
And, how does it differ from erotica ?
Ryan Dancey, Vice President of Wizards of the Coast, believed that TSR failed because of "...a near total inability to listen to its customers, hear what they were saying, and make changes to make those customers happy." Are you listening, Games Workshop ?
To paraphrase a US Supreme Court Justice: "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it."
Erotic/Pornographic artwork has been around since Mankind has been painting on the walls of caves, with any imaginable level of 'depravity' (as perceived by the accepted Western Judeo-Christian system of mores).
As with anything, it's never a problem until it becomes a problem.
Keep your enjoyment thereof within moderation, and you (or you and your significant other) can get what you need out of it. Go overboard and, well, no one says they want to be a porn-addict when they grow up.

It's pornography when a man watches it, erotica when a woman watches itOriginally Posted by Hard Aun
I think that the popularity of porn is a testament to how messed up society is in terms of sexuality. When I last did sex education with my form tutor group of 14 year olds I asked them if
- If they had discussed intimacy and the opposite sex in general with anyone
- If they had seen or read or even listened to anything on the subject, on the quiet
Almost none of them had discussed it with anyone, almost all of them had done their own research. I feel society strongly needs to provide that second option, ideas like abstinence will only go so far and sex still feels like a taboo subject we are ocasionally forced to deal with in school.
One of the best, well defined definitions of pornography I have heard was as follows -Originally Posted by Hard Aun
"Any form of sexual content that you lose interest in after you have finished masturbating."
The definition was meant for a study on masturbation, so I assume you could easily tack on a "or after sexual intercourse" to the end of that definition and have something easily workable.
Erotica, on the other hand, is an art form designed to provoke and arouse, but not intended for masturbation.
To differentiate between porn and erotica, I believe you need to look at the intent of the "artist". Is it meant to be "artistic", or is it meant to turn someone on? I think that is about it. Is it acceptable, as usual, I will take the middle ground, as long as it is consenting adults, sure. Unfortunately, this one is kinda fuzzy. I don't think young males are negatively affected by exposure, (not immersion), to pornography. How many young males snuck a look at Dads/older brothers Plaboy mags when they were kids and have grown up to be mature, well adjusted people? Most of us I would assume. I do not understand the female psyche, (as evidenced by the fact that I have an x-wife), so, I cannot comment on the female side of this one.
What does bother me is the different levels of acceptance around the world. In certain regions, what I would classify as pedofilic pornography, can be bought at the corner store, off the shelf. I know this is not something I will ever be able to fix, and it rather unaccepting of me, (bad Hersh, bad), but there isn't much I can do about that either.

There is nothing wrong with not accpeting child porography. Infact, it is the right thing to do. I know I'm not usualy strong, or judgemental, but peadofiles are sick, sick, bastards. To do something about it, simply don't but the stuff, and contact your local police/army/lynching mob. If its in another country, just don't go to that country or region.
