Since LordLink suggested someone make a topic on a perfect society, I thought that this would be a good topic for my first enhanced forum thread.
I personally think that getting rid of all those stupid celeb magazines that tell us who's overweight or anorexic in Hollywood would help. Some people are so obsessed with these people's lives that they ignore their own!
Getting rid of Canada's gradual Americanization would help too, but no sense in getting greedy, is there?

"Your kid puked on me. I should get extra marks for that."
I would go one step further and ban all those z listed celebs.
Well in theory, the only way for a "perfect" society to exist is if people lived in a state of positive peace. All the needs are catered for right up to self actualisation, and they suffer no violence, physycal, cultural structural or otherwise.
I could write an essay on this, bloomin peace and conflict studies.
I probably said everything you need to know about my opinion in the thread about what the human race should be remembered for.
The only way to make everyone happy is to remove their capacity to be unhappy. You define what their goals are, and then fulfill them eternally, all the while making sure the person never wishes for anything else.
I'd recommend reading Brave New World. It's dated now, but it's still a clever and cynical look at what the perfect society would really be like.
Personally, I'd rather not be perfect, I'd rather be as imperfect, anarchic and dynamic as possible. I'd rather be an individual in an imperfect society of individuals than have someone intentionally limiting my thoughts so that I'll always be happy.

gee, wouldn't you love to live in the world depicted by the movie "Soylent Green"
it's about as perfect a society as humanity is capable of.
or there is the alternative of the world after the virus bombing that is described in the book "Resident evil - caliban cove" where the T-Virus has been altered to turn all humanity into mindless (and harmless) animals; okay so there's be some issues about classing that as a "society" but humanity as it is, is incapable of peace and perfection.

I agree with the_giant_mantis. I even have a direct 40k quote to back it up.
"The orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which shows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We eldar who have failed, or the humans, on the road to ruin in there turn. And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude."
Someone on the GW team shares my view as that is exactly what I think. Whilst one sets goals for onesself these goals will inevitably clash with anothers. Thus destroying the Utopia as one party or another is dissatisfied. The only kind of culture that shares goals is one of mindless violence like the orks. Where all orks are the same and desire nothing.
All in all it comes down to one statement.

Endless war was the pinnicle of creation hmmm well I was always taught its not the winning but the taking part that counts.
