    Delicacies from the nakesake...

    (Edit: naMesake. Stoopid fingers.)

    Let me explain.

I went to Stilton, to have some Stilton.
I went to Bakewell to have a Bakewell Tart.
I went to Melton Mowbray to have a MM Pork Pie.
I went to Cheddar (I went to school near there!) to have some cheese.

I was mildly dissappointed in MM and Bakewell. (not Cheddar as I didn't expect much).

This is because I think that they both have cultivated a flavour that is an 'acquired taste' that I lacked.
I feel that I've been cheated by the mass produced product that I'm used to.

Does anybody else have similar experiences?

    Yeah, I think that'll do.

I was curious if people were curious enough about the origins of stuff such that they visited those places.

As in, has anyone been to Champagne? I'm sure a lot of people have drunk it (or sparkling wine) but have you been there?

I recently went to the Haw Paw Villa (aka Tiger Balm Gardens) in Singapore where the makers of the Chinese Ointment lived and made their fortune. Sadly, the place doesn't get many visitors and consequently much funding and is slowly going to rack and ruin. Such is the cost of real estate that the sister site in Hong Kong got demolished shortly before I had a chance to visit that one. I think that may soon be the fate of the Singaporean one too.

Or a Frankfurter in frankfurt? (Bockwurst in Bockwur!!?!)

I've been to Frankfurt and Hamburg, but I was young and the silliness didn't let itself known. Next time though...

Seconded, and it was very good.

Planning on Chicago-style pizza when LO hits up Chicago in '07.
