Not content to sue (so far this year) the Florida Bar, the Florida Supreme Court, GTA publisher Take-Two Interactive and leading gaming blog Kotaku, game-hatin’ barrister Jack Thompson has focused on a new target, burger franchise Wendy’s.
In the latest issuance from his nonstop e-mail machine, Thompson turns his attention to Wendy’s CEO Kerri Anderson. What’s Thompson’s gripe? Obesity? Cholesterol? The Frostys are too thick to suck through a straw?
Nope, It’s Rockstar’s upcoming Manhunt 2. So just what is Wendy’s connection with Manhunt 2? There isn’t one, unless you connect the dots the way Jack Thompson connects the dots.
With essentially no one left to sue, Thompson has latched onto a Wendy’s promotional tie-in with Nintendo Wii toys (pictured at left). The issue seems to be that:
a.) Manhunt 2 is what Thompson calls a “murder simulator”
b.) Manhunt 2 will appear on the Wii (among other systems)
c.) Wendy’s is promoting the Wii, therefore;
d.) Wendy’s is promoting Manhunt 2, which promotes murder
Thompson also claims to have the inside track on what deceased Wendy’ founder Dave Thomas would have wanted in this regard:
A dear friend of mine worked for Wendy’s and with Dave Thomas closely for years. From that I know that Dave Thomas never would have tolerated the use of Wendy’s good name to promote Nintendo’s Wii, not with this game available on the Wii platform.
So now Jack's evidence is hearsay from a friend of a friend of a dead guy. Yeah, I'm sure that will hold up in court. Kudos Jack kudos.

I think the end result of this thread is a foregone conclusion: Jack Thompson is a jackass. I probably share a lot of moral views as Jack Thompson, but his crusade against video games, especially in light of the subject of this thread, is out of hand.
I'm pretty sure Jack the Ripper was playing the beta for the first Manhunt.

Unless American law differs amazingly from UK law there is no way this court action will succeed so let him sue he will just be wasting his own money.
(Not that I particularly agree with the manhunter games but whatever)

i agree that i don't find manhunt or any game like this appropriate for younglins.
I remember when i went to see jurrasic-park in the cinema when i was but a chitlin.
Scared the living **** i outta me i can tell you.
But being a bit of a libertarian (Libertarianism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) i think adults should do whatever they want within the boundaries of law and decency.
As games like manhunt don't violate any of the boundaries i say go right ahead.
(as an aside, i'm not against taxes or against laws in general, the core of my thinking is that every adult is 100% responsible of him or herself and that as long as noone else is hurt they should do what they want... including every drug they want, free abortions, the lot.
The only problem is that this system -like every other system - only works if everyone goes along with it, but i do think everyone is self-responsible)
Plus i like a nice bloody, gruesome experience :x, so i might play this game and i won't have anyone tell me i can't.

Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

Ya know, the only thing that I want to say about this nonsense, is that I would love to be sitting in the court room, when this case starts. If only so I can watch the humiliation Jackson would suffer when the Judge looks at him, and the reasoning behind the suit, and laughs.
As far as I, a mere "jurer-in-waiting" can see, there is absolutely no connection between A (a particular console game), and B (a fast food restaurant) that would warrant a law-suit against B. Somehow I doubt that the law can stretch as much as this fool wants it to, in terms of legal responsibility.
It's kind of like suing Fred Bloggs, because I didn't realise that Fred Flintstone was a cartoon character, and when I emulated him (Flintstone) by cutting the bottom out of my car, it no longer worked. The only (mono-molecular thin) connection is they have, is the same first name.
Why doesn't he just go ahead and sue every single person who owns a Wii? Afterall, aren't they advocating murder, according to his "reasoning", too?
Seems I had a little more to say ^_^ oh well ^_^

Seriously though. He can't seriously expect anyone to except the absolute steaming bowl of **** he is peddling can he? Yes the game is a violent one, and I agree not suitable for young children, but Wendys are promoting a console, not a game....
Fair enough if they posters of the offending game up on the walls of their restaurants, but I am pretty sure that would lose them a lot of business. After all, who wants to see someone decapitated on the walls while they are choking down their large fries?
They are promoting a games console, which unlike some of it's competitors, can actually be seen as a form of exercise, (albeit not as good as going outside, but still), try telling my 6 games straight on wii boxing isn't tiring....
Just my thoughts

I was unaware that a Manhunt 2 was being made until I read this thread, so not only am I suing Wendy's, I'm also suing Blackhat, Jack Thompson, and Xenomarines Killer for promoting this murder simulator.
Seriously, do we even need to comment on how stupid this is?
Christ, you could use anyone with this six degrees of separation approach.
The fact that I even know Jack Thompson's name pisses me off to no limit. I get 99% of my daily information from the websites I choose to browse. I don't watch TV. It really gets to me when some douchebag like this somehow finds a way to infiltrate my tightly knit approved media net.
Who backs this guy? Does he have old money or did he "earn" it somehow? Why's he got such a voice?

And return from the ashes you call.
I do not beleive they can sue him I think the only way would be sexual content like in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. Then they just took it out and then fixed it. So why not sue Grand Theft auto and try to get game banned? Couldn't not there fault kid would be a masterdebator and post it on enternet.
wow, and I had thought that Jack had hit an all time low, but I was wrong...
whats next, going after nintendo for making the game system that plays this "murder simulator"?
I think jack had now officially gone crazy.
i need to find something interesting to put here
Ok Scotty, jokes over... NOW BEAM UP MY CLOTHES!
Well hwat can I say? He's obviously insane.
