after my first tour of duity in the middle east (back in 2002) i came to LO and met some interesting people
some names i still see like toasty, blackhat and a few others but one i used to see alot dosent seem to be here
way back in the day there was a forum user named bornindarkness and i havent seen his name on and its been so long since i was an actual member that i doubt im remembered but whatever happened to the old LO crew?
just post memories here just a remembering thread
The ends always justify the means
Well, I'd be so bold as to throw my lot in with the old LO crew. And BiD (Bornindarkness) is still lurking around, so no worries about that! :w00t:
Alot of the old regulars left a while back due to one thing or another. Some was due to internal disagreement, some was due to just having way too much to do etc.
But, lately alot of old members have been rearing their wrinkled old mugs around here again, largely due to an initiative set in action by some of the other older members (thankfully we'd exchanged IM contact details back in the olden days).
I remember when Off-topic was a beehive of activity, discussions of all types went on there (before the ban on the big three was instated; Religion, politics and sex). I remember a massive thread on Warhammer...ehm...adult entertainment, with amateur scripts and such being proposed. Ofcourse the massive Squeebie wars were a big thing. And Bobahats mug of infinite beer (Age has clouded my memory...think it was a mug atleast...and last I kept score Bobahat was still in possession of it )
Then there was a whole deal with modsticks being passed around, stolen, broken and bound to warpdemons; something that propably shouldn't be attempted again.
Oooh! Remember when we had this huge disagreement with...ahh...what was that forums name again...and they started joining LO and spamming it to high heaven and some people retaliated and then Sister Mel stepped in, settled it and rose to modhood with a modwhip of utter destruction (that's a good thing 'ya know)
I also remember a member named Suns, who later just up and disappeared with a very cryptic post. I once tried to track him down and came to the conclusion (after tracking him across member boards and email trails) that he'd joined the army and been shipped to some military post.
Hey Suns! If you're still lurking around here dust yourself up and speak up! We miss you man!
But yes, now you've got me all nostalgic...Thanks!

Uncle jesse..? Is that you?? Holy ass welcome back ^__^.
I think PrOtOcon summed it up nicely. A lot of us were getting busy with education/work/other things (wimminz?), meaning hiatuses (hiatii?) were/are commonplace amongst the old crew. I only returned here about 8 months ago myself, and I have been out of the hobby for years.
Bzv PrOtOcon: the infinite beer was kept in a bottle, and it was mine . Unless he nicked it >=/... Oh and our war was with 40kforums.com. Fun times, though when it was it its worst I was on holidays so I kinda missed part of it >_<.
Ov courze, no nostalgia thread is complete without a reference to sis' investigation on possible other females on this board, which ended up with some pretty creative conclusions. Come to think of it, I'm sure there was one thread with a poll, and another solely dedicated to the outcome (which was 1.2 females total).
And who could forget the humble Trashcan board... a place for people to both learn and laugh at the expense of others. It's a shame so many of the old threads are lost.
Wasn't Suns also the cheese-obsessed guy bzv?
Ze titles yez...
When in doubt,
Smite.<SilverMane> I would trust BID with my life
<SilverMane> HEIL BID!
<Adrian-> BiD is Omnipotent; All Knowing, All Powerful!
<Scary_Troopers> I see you as an optimist, GT. : D
But what of the midgets!?
=]Front in favour of Moderation of the Harshest kind.[=
Well, if Pr0t0con, is declaring himself one of the old guard, then I am too! I have to say though that unlike the two others above me, I have been active since I joined. (I don't know if that is a reflection on me or on them )
Good and less moderatered times we had back in the day, a benefit of having a smaller membership I suppose. I remember a poo fight thread and the infamous Bobarium Online uprising when BiD went on holidays. The 20 page discussion on which was cuter a nurgling or a snotling and of course the Squeebie outbreak in late 03. Many good men were lost.
Its interesting to look back and see how far we have come, we lost many a good member, luckily we recuited much more.

Ah Bobarium Online...:w00t:
Yeah, Suns was the one that incorporated cheese into all aspects of the hobby. And I mean the dairy kind of cheese.
It was brilliant and mildly disturbing at the same time.
And the trashcan was excellent...And I feel alot of me was there (as you may have notice I am the mod of the trashcan. Or was...)
And remember, keep your gloss varnish handy in case of any unexpected squeebie outbreaks!
