2900 Pts - Ogre Kingdoms Roster
Tyrant (266 pts) (Probably goes in the Irongut unit w/o Runemaw)
(Heavy Armour; Luck-Gnoblar)
1 Wyrdstone Necklace
Slaughtermaster (250 pts) (Probably solo or in a Bull unit)
Bruiser (187 pts)
(BSB; Cathayan Longsword; Heavy Armour; Luck-Gnoblar) (In Irongut unit w/ Runemaw)
1 Ironcurse Icon
4x Bulls (6#, 240 pts)
Ironguts (6#, 338 pts)
1 Rune Maw
Ironguts (6#, 318 pts)
Gnoblar Fighters (30#, 60 pts)
Gnoblar Trappers (8#, 48 pts)
2x Leadbelchers (2#, 120 pts)
Scraplauncher (165 pts)
Gorger (75 pts)
- I want to give the Tyrant a little more tooth.
- Not sure if a Slaughtermaster is better than 2 Butchers.
- I don't like enemy magic thus the heavy antimagic (for ogres).
- Spare models are 1 Scraplauncher, and 1 Slavegiant.
- Lots of core but that's what I have on hand.
- Any thoughts on other equipment for Slaughtermaster?
- Any different troop formation ideas? 4x2, 3x3...
- Any equipment ideas for Bulls or characters?
- Any magic banners worth giving to BSB?
- Ironcurse Icon seems silly but 5 pts for its potential...
Thank you for C&C!
I like the idea behind small groups of Ogres, but I think these may be a bit too small. The Ogre player in my group has the most success by piling up all his Bulls into a big horde which forces the opponent's hand into dealing with it, then bringing in Ironguts/Scraplaunchers/etc. from the side. I'm also a fan of Ironfists, though that may be a matter of taste (go go swappable parry save/+1 A!).
I would definitely move things around such that you could field 2 Scraplaunchers. They are very, very useful IMO. The Gorger on the other hand... I'm not sold. I've seen them in play, and I was underwhelmed with the results.
A Slaughtermaster trumps 2 Butchers IMO, especially if you're going anti-magic. That extra +2 to dispel checks helps a lot. And yeah, that Tyrant needs a lot more bite. I'm a fan of strapping him up with an Ogre Blade, because that way he wounds all other enemy characters on a 2+, and rips through 4 points of armor. If you want to give him more offense on the cheap, though, you really can't go wrong with a Cathayan Longsword (makes him WS 7 I 5, and keeps your Armor Piercing property to boot!).

With Cathayan Longsword - same thing - I don't think you keep AP - ogre club doesn't get used. If so then that's awesome.
You're suggestions would take points from either rare or core. Drop Slavegiant for Scrapper? I don't know about the horde thing - I've had mixed experiences.
Hordes aren't worth it IMO - 8 bulls get 24 atks - for twice the points you get 36 attacks (4x3) only 50% against typical unit sizes.
The reason Hordes are worth it is because of how unbelievably tough they are in CC, especially for monstrous infantry. A normal Horde spits out 30 Attacks and has 30 Wounds. Ogres have 54 Attacks and 54 Wounds in the same space, thanks to Monstrous Support and multiple-Wound models. Sure, you pay more points for it, but for good reason - the numbers are overwhelmingly in your favor. Even if you don't get full formation onto them, the fact of the matter is you're attacking a ton of times in a formation that makes you extremely survivable in CC. One of the things you have to watch out for as an Ogre player is that the best way to fight you is with hordes, frankly, and this lets you fight fire with fire.
You are forced to use Ironfists, but Ironfists don't preclude the use of an Ogre Club if you use them as a shield, and you get the option of using it as an extra hand weapon or a shield. It's good to have against lightly armored infantry because you need more attacks, or against heavy infantry when you need a parry save to make your Ogres a bit tougher. It's a win-win. The Cathayan Longsword is Armor Piercing by itself, so it's basically a straight upgrade over the Ogre Club.
