I was playing with an Ogre army list and was looking at the Maneaters.
Is it true if I give them 2x Pistols that in close combat I HAVE to use the Str 4 of the pistols over the natural Str 5 of the Maneaters?
I was looking at
4 Iron Guts with the Slaughter Master and Bsb in here
Std, Cha, Mus
50 gnoblars with trappers, cha, mus, std. going to stick close to unit with Rune Maw so will always have a target to bounce spells onto.
4 Lead Belchers
* 3 Maneaters - I have 1 with the Ogre pistols on him and was going to just convert 2 normal ogres into maneaters. Was thinking Scouts and Swiftstride.
rare - own nothing atm, not sure what to try and get.
50 Gnoblars + trappers
Also would you mind re-formatting your list a bit, I had some trouble following it.
Toss the ward save - you don't need it. The amount of wounds you will recover from caster should compensate - you are naturally tough - don't waste the points. If you find your SM against something that could kill him - you deployed wrong.
Rune Maw of BSB is TERRIBLE if you're taking any gut magic or augment magic. Read the words - targeted by ANY spell - including your own.
Hunter is usually hit or miss - and purely a fluffy hero. Take only if you enjoy his flavor. Statistically - hes not so hot.
For characters in general - less characters - more ogres - they are much more efficient and cool.
2 characters in 1 puny unit of ogres - if you want both together, at least make the unit a death-star.
I would say to combine your IGs into one.
If no rune maw - no gnoblars. Unless you want a easily breakable, no longer inexpensive tar pit - drop em - would rather have more ogres.
Besides - rune maw works better if NO units are around, - then the spell does nothing!
Leadbelchers are always welcome.
Maneaters - if youre going for effectiveness - maneaters rock. 3 of em aren't going to do much though... Scouts and swiftstride are good choices but consider your strategy and how they will complement it. Do you really need scouts? Would you rather use them for their stubborn possibility and anchor down a flank? A very versatile unit and possibly a waste if not used with strategy in mind.
For rare - I like a good ol giant since nothing else in your army has ld10 stubborn! the Ironblaster is good choice against some armies and generally more favorable than the scraplauncher. The thundertusk and stonehorn are both really cool models though their effectiveness are debatable.
More questions than answers but that's the ticket to learning.
