Hi there, first attempt at OK tournament army. Untested as yet so would appreciate feedback
283 Tyrant, extra hand weapon, giant breaker, talisman of preservation
328 Level 3 Slaughtermaster with ironfist, hellheart and dispel scroll
414 12 ogres, ironfists, full command
293 6 ironguts, standard, bellower, banner of discipline
77.5 21 gnoblars, trappers
360 4 mournfang, full command, dragon hide banner, ironfists
182 4 leadbelchers, bellower
Plan is to have the tyrant in the ironguts so that he gets a leadership of 10 and have the slaughtermaster in the ogres. Stonehorn advances with them for the chance to bring numbing chill into combat. leadbelcher and ironblaster protect flanks, gnoblars protect iron guts from a flank attack and arent expected to do anything apart from pull a few people down with the trappers special rule. Sabretusks are to help me pick my charges and if they cause panic tests shouldnt be too big a problem with inspiring leadership of 10 and mournfangs do what they do best...
Can't have 2 arcane items on one character.
Take those points and upgrad him to Lv4 - no point in not - like buying a burger and fries separately when you could get the combo!
You need a stronger core - 6 IG wont do much honestly. Id say pile em high and combine the 2 to whatever you prefer, IG if you want to keep the standard. SM can hang out behind - no point to have him in front anyway.
Gnoblars will not do the job you have intended. If you rely on em for that, youll have an enemy unit sitting behind you in no time. Not good. Also - yo need an anchor somewhere, a tarpit if you will. Leadbelchers and Ironblaster may ward off cav or other pesky flankers but will not be able to deal with a full R/F.
IMO - too many points in characters - too few points on core. Gotta give basic ogres more credit than you seem to prescribe.
Thanks for the advice Stonebeard, with regards to requiring a tarpit, I've seen elsewhere that you don't think Gnoblars are up to the task of surviving one charge let alone a few turns, which compared to say Skavenslaves I can see why you would say they are over priced even with the trappers special rule.
Out of interest what do you recommend? A small unit of maneaters with the stubborn special rule?
You stole my name!
Seriously though, you might want to consider dropping the fighty lord in favor of a BSB and butcher. Also, see if you can up the IG to 10 (+ 2 characters) gives you two big blocks.
I think you're limited to 25% of your army in lord choices, so it looks like you're over that limit. I don't play ogres, so your book may something else.
-Extra Hand Weapon
-Talisman of Protection
-Silvery Armor (Grants 2+ Armor Save can't be improved
-Lore of The Maw
-Lore of Beasts
12 Bulls W/Full Command, Iron Fists 414
6 Ironguts W/Std,Mus, Banner of Disipline 293
4 Mournfang 360
4 Lead Belchers 182
you have 52 pts left over. You can Drop the Champion in the Mournfangs and have 87 pts to have the gnoblars and increase them. or even drop a Mournfang altogether and flush out the Leadbelchers to 5. They can fire in 2 ranks which is freaking amazing. 5xD3(6) Shots can't remember how many shots they get at this moment. Your choice, but I think this is a overall better list with two level 2's. Oh and the pts can also go towards your tyrant to flush his magic out some more if you wish.
Another Option(I'm at work and i'm bored! ;p) would be to drop the mournfangs to 3 with std.mus. and drop the Ironguts. and run 2 units of bulls, 10 w/full command and 11 with/command. the 10 would have a butcher and Tyrant. Running 6 wide 2 deep. and the 11 man bulls would have the other butcher and that would be 4x3.
Bulls x10 w/cmd, Ironfists 350
Bulls x11 w/cmd, ironfists 382
Mournfang x3 w/Std, mus Dragonhide banner Ironfists, heavy armor, 280
6 leadbelchers w/mus 258
You have 31 pts left. to flush out magic items on Tyrant or add sabre tusks. Don't their pts cost, never use them,.
