I have been reading the forums with great interest and I am about to play my first 1500 point game with the Ogre Kingdoms.
I have basically inherited the models listed below and would appreciate advice on both army/unit selection and also some tactical advice.
I know I have cheesed up the characters with gear and Big Names, but these are all the models I have.
I am planning on getting some Leadbelchers next.
My kids have bought me a Butcher for Christmas so I have to wait to add magic to my army.
The Army - 1497 Points
Bruiser - Army General
Brace of handguns
Ironguts Qty 4
Bulls Qty 4 (2 regiments)
Crusher & Standard Bearer
Gnoblars Qty 25 (2 regiments)
Gnoblar Trappers Qty 12
Yetis Qty 3
3 caracters at 1500, very bold. I would trade one of the bruisers for a butcher with some dispell scrolls, they'll come in handy against many a foe.
Never take unit champions in an ogre kingdom list, you are paying 20 pts for a single attack, and 2 of these guys give you an extra ogre bull. Shoot for musicians instead.
Thanks for the input
Saying something like this is the easiest way to kill your ownthread, always expend your thoughts, alternatives or bring up an updated version of your list, to keep suggestions coming.Originally Posted by Dutchie!
Thanks for both of your inputs. My forum-status (novice) is definitely showing.
I like the idea of picking up extra points by getting rid of the Crushers and Standard Bearers for the Bulls. Should I toast the Gutlord with the Iron Guts as well?
I can probably scrape together another 10 or so Gnoblars, but then I will have run out of models so where would you use up the extra points?
I suppose I am pretty anal when it comes to models, "what you see is what I've got", so I'm pretty restricted with weapon combinations for my Ogre characters and troops.
At the moment I won't have a Butcher until Christmas, so I see opponent's magic phases as being really painful. How would you guys overcome this?
The rune maw banner is a great way to misdirect spells to you units of gnoblars. The Theidstones can also proove useful to have 2-3 on a bruiser.Originally Posted by Dutchie!
Thanks Wolf_Pack, it looks like a useful way to use some points.
When playing an 'Impact' type army I normally use the good old 'pin-and-hook'. Here I attempt (vainly sometimes) to take a flank or strategic point, pinning down my opponent, and then attempt to 'hook' around and flank my opponents.
How would use this type of army?
If you check out my armylist threads you'll see that I like my units of ogres very strong, to help them break through the toughest units on opponent can throw at me, bar unbreakable ones.
the way I see it, you'll deploy your gnoblars first, setting them up right in front of your opponent's main infatry blocks. Doing so will keep him oblivious of your plans to deploy your ogres, wich you will deploy either behind the gnoblars, next to, or facing a diagonal to go for a farther flank of is units. Hunter to a flank with a possible unit of trappers to benefit from is leadership.
For ce your opponent to face either the gnoblars who'll be coming in a strait line, or the ogres coming for the flank. Wich ever he faces, charge with the ogres , then engage with the gnoblars in the upcoming turn to cause a panic check, and bring ranks and number to your CC resolution.
My army list hasn't changed greatly. I have basically taken out the bulls standard and champion.
I played a three way battle against my kids - Empire and Chaos Undivided (1500 points each).
The Ogres (Bulls and iron Guts) did really well destroying a unit of Chosen Knights and two regiments of warriors for minimal casualties.
My regiment, or gaggle as well call it, of Gnoblars killed of 4 Empire Inner Circle Knights before being shot to bejesus by handgunners and a hellblaster!!!!
The Empire army was very shooty, sat back and totally annihilated the remainder of my army.
This army desperately need Leadbelchers.
Use momentum and cover ground as quickly as possible.
Those pesky little Gnoblars are pretty useful and not just as a screen.
Trappers excel even more at screening, they always take take a simple casualty or 2, sometimes none, wich dodges a panic test.
You beat my best gnoblar performance, wich was wounding a shaggoth to take half is points!
