Ok, i've talked a fair bit in the discussion sections without putting down a list. This is more to help newcomers to Ogres as an example or how you could play Ogres, but if people have any comments or suggestions to make regarding the list (please no "this list is wrong MSU FTW!" comments though), although constructive critisism is welcome.
Ok here's an example of a 2,000 point army I played with yesterday and won the game heavily (battle report may follow in the BR section)
Tyrant - Burlug Bakstabba
Tooth Gnoblar x2
Tooth Gnoblar x2
Iron Guts x8
Deployment + Plan:
This is an army that needs to stay fairly combat in order to keep flanks protected and benefit from re-roling Generals Ld9 for breaktests thanks to the BSB. Generally you want your army to look somthing like this:
Giant - Gnoblars - Bulls+Butcher - IG+Tyrant+BSB - Bulls+Butcher - Gnoblars - LeadBelchers
Obviously this can change depending on if your opponent deploys a nice fat unit on the flank, but generally Leadbelchers and Giants are great for holding flanks. The IG unit will deploy opposite your enemies juiciest unit possible, that way they dont need to turn and just march up the field to combat. I find that this unit makes your opponent alter whatever he/she planned as the psychological impact of seeing 8 IG, Tyrant and Bruiser in one unit will force them to either abandon their unit facing them and deploy flank wise, or more generally deploy lots of troops nearby to try (in vain) to kill the unit.
Their flanks are protected by Gnoblars who will have Ld from the General, rerolling Break Tests for the BSB, making them very resiliant flank defenders.
Closer still to the big unit are the Bulls with the Butchers. While a unit of 4 is prone to panic I find that when the enemy looks at the massive unit, then looks at the Bulls+Butcher, they always decided that they would rather shoot the IG. The main job of these units if secondary flank defense and to augment themselves and the IG with Gut magic. Braingobbler in arty crews (+skull mantle for that extra -1Ld) works nicely, and Bangstick is good for taking out pesky units of 10 shooters or skrimishers.
In the end, the all crushing IG + Character unit smashs up the table destroying all infront of it, has its flanks protected by 3 units either side, all of which are either very resiliant or pack a hell of a punch.
A applaud your "heavy" victory, but it was with an illegal army. IF your opponent allowed the use of 2 arcane items on one character then theres nothing wrong.
Have a good one and eat someone for dinner
