lets talk about ogres and themes.
tell me about your armies background where did you get your inspirations etc....
what are the good themes for ogres, we know Mongolian works well what about others.
i was thinking of making a samoa style army, you know large guys carrying wooden carved mace and clubs with wild tattoos all over their bodies.
sooooo....tell me anything, a good story, a picture, a book that can help us all make a better more interesting ogre....
How about Lustria ogres, decorated with lizard or tiger skins, jungle bases and so on ++
..But ogres are mercenaries willing to work for anyone so basicaly you can do whatever theme you like..from a mutated army from the gods of chaos up to ogre pirates party.

I themed my army solely on being a mercenary army, under the name Mourn Mercenaries.
The story behind them is more or less this, during one of the many big caravans that were passing through the mountain, the ogres tried to take it by force. A wealth lord within the caravan managed to bargain his way out with the Tyrant; Morgar Skulltrader.
The bargain included a large portion of gold, food, weapons and other things.
Morgar enjoyed the payment and figured he could 'teach' member of his tribe not to attack the following caravans provided they paid for the protection.
After several years, Goldtooth persuaded the Mourn Mercenaries to become part of his empire which was by now growing rapidly, Morgar accepted and expanded the range of jobs they took.
They can now be found working with almost any army not caring to what intent they might have as long as they get paid because if they don't their betrayer might find himself at the wrong end of the food chain.
Rule 37: There is no 'overkill'. There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload'.
My theme makes no sense, but here it is anyway.
Bloodgruel the Flatulent runs a macabre circus that travels throughout the Old World, selling their services and pitching their tents. They all have striped, strongman pants and carry heavy things, like cannons and ogre clubs.
He calls his army the Deadly Winds. So it's Bloodgruel the Flatulent and the Deadly Winds.
You can see a link to Bloodgruel's army in my signature.
Sorry, I told you it made no sense.
My first theme, though, was a Skrag army, and I will paint him sometime along the way. I have four gorgers, the first of which I just started to paint.
I took the greedy nature of ogres and made up my own fluff. I threw conventional WHFB to the wind and themed my army around greed for oil and the curent political situation the USA is in. I started with a SlaveGiant converted to look like Uncle Sam, made a marionet out of him and above him is a hand with a rings on that say GOP. for those across the pond GOP refers to the Repblican party which is/was in power for the invasion of Iraq, the oil crisis, crash of the housing market, and last but not least invasion of Iraq. Odviously the giant doesn't see action to much but it's what got me started on OK after the invasion rrevealed no WMD's.
I then made bases and movement trays with Oil spilled over the ground. I used Modge Podge over the black bases and painted over the top of it with brown ink. It gives it that dark but semi opaq look that oil has when it is changed from a car or whatever. Some units have Oil Barrles on their bases and Gnoblar unit filler pieces are 2-3 barrells with oil spilling out of them.
At some tournies where people don't know me they see the army as being condisending to our brothers and sisters in the armed forces but that's not my intent at all. Instead I support them because I have family members and friends that are in them. They are precious to me and it upsets me that they may be put in harms way because of what I feel is someone's personal agenda.
I could go on and on about the other meanings it has to me but this is enough self rightousness for the one day.
I am doing a kind of Disciples of gut magic type theme. Gut magic is held in the highest regard and is the most praised weapon. Everyone in the army is wearing a mask or some sort of covering because of their horribly mutilated faces. This is due to their sacrifice to the maw in an attempt to make their gut magic the most powerful of all. This is in exception to the butchers who display their old, sacrificial wounds proudly. A ogre is only allowed to remove their mask once they are full fledged butchers. No blunt weapons in the army only bladed. After all it is harder to get meat to feed the magic with a club.
