Just a question I ask out of interest.
At 2K-2250pts, who here actually takes a Tyrant? I can see why people do take them since their profiles are ridiculously powerful, plus the LD9 plus access to Big Names is pretty cool.
Problem I see is that they're also ridiculously expensive, so all it takes is once lucky cannon shot or one character with Netlings or the VHS to result in the Victory Points heading south, possibly even losing you the game.
Another reason I wouldn't bother with them is that Bruisers are pretty much as good as Lords of other races anyways, but will save you 70pts at least, not taking into account what you don't spend on Magic Items, or the more expensive wargear the Tyrant gets.
But of course, I am but a new Bull on the block, so I was wondering what everyone else thinks. Tyrant- worth it or not in 2K-2250pts?
Im of the opposite opinion.
Why would anyone waste the points on a bruiser and not take the tyrant O_o.
For the points difference the Tyrant is a massive upgrade that very very few things can deal with in Close combat.
While yes a lucky cannon shot CAN kill the tyrant why in the world do you have him running around solo O_o.
To be perfectly honost unless he is a BSB you have no real reason to take a bruiser at all barring lower points games.
Looking for help with your Ogre kingdoms. Need help against them? have burning questions about life or why Dave's Avatar is so creepy. Feel free to stop by and ask OverTyrant Loki
I agree with Loki 100%. I never leave home without my Tyrant! He is a complete Face Smasher!
It also depends on which type of army you're playing against. If there is nothing in the other army that is a proper challenge for the tyrant, he is going to be overkill. Extra points that can be spent on magic items or bulls to form a new group etc.
he's worth it at any points value from 2K on IMO. The added Ld, increased stats and magic item allowance are more then enough to make up his points. Equip him with a tenderizer, the wyrdstone necklace, longstrider, a luck gnoblar and maybe heavy armor, and he's a beast. I've never had him die in combat, only run down after things went bad.
