I'm about to play a 2k force in a campaign and I'm interested in tactics against Empire. I've only played against this army once and it wasn't easy. If somebody knows the Empire tactics as well to watch out for that would be great.
Hi there. Welcome to LO.
So what kind of army does he run? Is it one person? Do you remember the list or units?
One thing is to neutralize shooting. Charging gunners and sending gorgers after war machines is good.
Ogre magic can really shine against Empire. Bonecruncher can get rid of some shooting. Heck, it can get rid of a lot of T3 models, knights, shooters, infantry, you name it.
Remember that Fear is your friend, and that you establish Outnumbering by US, not numbers (and ogres are US3, so we will outnumber a fair amount).
Ranged attacks are the bane of ogres, so watch out for them (as has been said). I'd also like to issue a caveat about Detachments. They can really ruin an ogre unit's day. Killing even a single model from supportive fire can be nasty, and a flank charge from Halberdiers can be painful.
A couple of items to watch for are the Ring of Volans (a lucky spell selection can be nasty), the VHS (swaps characteristics in a challenge- VERY nasty. If he's eager to issue a challenge, be weary- he most likely has it on his character, it may be an idea to use your unit champion to accept), plus the Sword of Fate (wounds a specific character on a 2+, does D6 wounds with no armour saves) can pop a Tyrant easily.
Let me know what kind of list he runs, and I'll see what I can tell you.
Oh yeah, and welcome to LO.
if you spend 100 points on 50 gnoblers they can waste alot of time shooting them especially if there first round of sharp stuff does alot of damage
