I was wondering if I should use gnoblars. Vote on if you use them.

Gnoblars are one of the best units in teh game - they are absolutley great, especially in an army where one unit of Gnoblars is probably as many points as a single Ogre Bull. They bring much needed static CR to OK armies, and the sharp stuff is a nice bonus. Their less than imrpessive combat ability is tempered by the fact that you can get LOTS of them, and they can be used to screen your very expensive Ogre units - getting enemy hevay cavalry to charge them is funny, especially if it sets up a charge from ogres
I love gnoblars. If my opponent decides to magic-spam me (my precious Ironguts), then I simply give them the Rune Maw, and a large unit of gnoblars in the vicinity.
As far as meatshields go, this lot isn't too bad, even though they're prone to bickering at the most inconvenient times. Keep them close to Ogres, and prevent flank charges. What always surprises me is that people actually shoot them.
Trappers are good too. They can get in the way of some enemy units, as well as what's been said before.
Never underestimate sharp stuff. I've managed to take a surprising amount of scalps from pointed rocks. Again, Trappers are great here.
One of the best units in the game for the cost. Only reason i use a single unit is because i cannot be bothered to pain more of the weedy buggers.
Also i feel that if you use more then 1 or 2 units you start to detract from the army (40 points for a single unit is nothing. But for each unit thats 1 less bull/gut).
Looking for help with your Ogre kingdoms. Need help against them? have burning questions about life or why Dave's Avatar is so creepy. Feel free to stop by and ask OverTyrant Loki
I like 3 units, I wouldnt use them as a meat shield as that woul slow the army down but they are excellent for dettering marchblockers and flyers.
2009 Tourny records (W-L-D) (20-4-4):
9/56, 1/12, 2/14, 4/14, 32/82, 1/6, 16/72
i played 2500 points against high elves today. had 2 units of 20 fighters and 1 unit of 10 trappers.
the 2 blocks of 20 were the only unit i had that got there points back in the whole game. they did extremely well.
1 unit killed a great eagle one shooting phase, the next shooting phase they killed a rank+ of high elf spearmen. next turn the spearmen charged. stand and shoot killed another rank. the remaining spearmen lost combat and ran and were overrun.
2 turns the later the same block killed a fast cav champ who was on his own.
the 2nd unit of gnoblars was double charged by knights and fast cav. stand and shoot killed all but the champ of fast cav.
in combat the gnoblars killed 2 knights, but lost the combat and were overrun.
all in all they more then made there points back and i plan on bringing more gnoblars in the future.

if pro is the opposite of con, does that mean progress is the opposite of congress?
I always have a unit of trappers because as much as an opponent won't admit it he really wants to avert from his battle plan to go smash the crap outta them just because they're there, a great distractive tool!

I must agree that my one unit of trappers have pulled in more than there share of points, and bailed out the rest of my army a few times as well. With decent (and lucky) deployment, I've taken out a few wizards and pelted a few cannon crews to death. Don't get me wrong though, they've gotten the crap kicked out of them early on in twice as many games.
I always take a unit, but it would take some kind of catastrophe to get me to paint any of the other three dozen or so I have sitting around.
I agree, trappers are one of my favorite units in the list. Along with my hunter, the make for a fun and fluffy flank of my battle line.
