Welcome to Librarium Online!
well, after lots of research and painting I finally played my first game ever. I brought along my ogres and went up against a really nice guy who was playing his warriors of chaos army instead of his (highly cheesy) lizardmen army....
My list was like so:
BRace of Handguns
Butcher (two of these)
3Bulls w/ bellow
3Guts w/ bellow (x4)
Briefly, the game didn't go so bad since it was only my first time, but on my first magic phase I stupidly decided to roll two power dice to get a spell off and miscast! Which ended up killing two of the three Butchers. I will never try using two dice ever again... the miscasts are too drastic to play around with.
Despite thinking all was lost, my guts held their own against some mean chaos knights, while my bulls flanked and destroyed a large block of warriors with a lvl 4 sorcerer in it. My trappers and gnobs did absolutely nothing and fled off the board the moment they had to take a panic check.
The belchers were the biggest disapointment, and the gorgers would of helped out more if i would of used them to march block primarily and attack second.
I LEARNED a TON about my army and more especially the chaos mortals army (one of the few that i knew almost nothing about)
So... I'll probably be playing the guy again tomorrow, since we both had a good time.
But the question remains: any advice? I know the details are few but if anyone had any kinds of advice for how to better prepare for a chaos mortal army I would be happy to listen.
His list was based off of two heavy knights units, one warrior unit, two marauder units, and three sorcerers... I assume it will be similar for tomorrow.
My list will be similar, but I'm thinking I will take only 20 gnobs, loose the brace of handguns for the Tyrant, and I'll think about loosing the belchers altogether... Maybe some yhetees? just more guts or bulls?
Firstly, it seems you gave 2 butchers the same magic item and the other one 2 arcane items, which unfortunately you can't do apart from scrolls, and if he has got so many wizards more dispel scrolls or even the hellheart would help. If leadbelchers don't work for you, go with more 'guts over bulls, and might as well lose the brace o' handguns cos you wont be causing any panic tests with 2 shots. Yhetees would work well I guess, seeing as they've got little shooting, but watch out for him magicing them, maybe use trappers as a screen?
well, at least my "cheating" didn't help me any since my magic was pretty much gone after the first turn, but thanks for pointing that out, i didn't know.
what about the brahmir statue? If I use that with a butcher, and cast braingobler, could that work?
the hellheart seems just too expensive ... I'm not completely convinced that it will work but I'll try it anyway
ok... here's the list (although i think its a little to chaos-focused instead of being well rounded....
Tyrant -- with one of the big gut units
Fistful of Laurels
Butcher-- this guy goes in the second big guts unit
4Guts w/ b (x2)
3Guts w/ b (x2)
3Bulls w/ b
I still have 27points left... any suggestions please?
that seems to be a decent list.
I think the hell heart will do some good for you.
dont give up on the belchers yet. they can be devastating some times.
you might also consider taking the skull plucker on one of your butchers or tyrant.
Killing Blow is always a nice thing.
and the staff of sorcery is always a good choice on a magic heavy army.
also, consider taking some standards.
they help a lot in combat res.
and if you still have any points left, take more gnobbys
I have never used the Hellheart, id like to hear how it works out for you.
check back later tonight... i'll post the results...
wish me luck
FOR THE GREAT MAW
the chaos opponent got away with a minor victory all because one of my gut and butcher units couldn't hold to a unit of chaos knights on the last turn...
It was just my luck that he didn't use a whole lot of magic, the hell heart didn't do anything and he never cast against my tyrant with the greatskull... so my magic "defense" was a weak use of points. His whole army was mounted... kinda scary.
My tyrant performed perfectly as he killed an exalted on a juggernaught and a lvl 2 sorcerer in two seperate challenges. Along with that, he kiled off at least 3 chaos knights!
The leadbelchers killed off two units of hounds and two of chaos mauraders (mounted) while holding the my entire left flank!
His chariots and chaos knights were the only things that caused me problems...
Sorry, I can;t help with the hellheart, i'll take it another time.
see, told ya the LB's would come through for you.
but since you took heavy magic defensive stuff, he was prob. more careful on how he used it though no? you said youre tyrant didnt get to use the skull mantle...but maybe thats just as well?
I play against TK a lot. And he takes a butt load of chariots.
Let the chariots charge some bulls. hold. then flank with a tyrant with the tenderizer, and youll see those chariots melt away.
As both a Chaos AND Ogre player I have a few choice words for this match-up.
Never take Hell Heart against magic heavy Chaos. The main reason for this is that they have Infernal Puppet, which allows them to modify any miscasts by up to a d3. This means with a lucky roll they can pick and choose from the Gut Magic miscast table which has some very nasty effects that hit ALL butchers. In short, a Chaos player running puppet will cast as many spells as possible, forcing miscasts JUST to hurt your butchers.
Brahmir Statue may sound very appealing (-3 ld brain gobblers are game-breaking, -4ld if in the same unit with the Skullmantle) but most popular Chaos builds are heavy on immune to psych. Anything with the marks of Khorn or Slaanesh will simply ignore this. Even then the entire army gets to re-roll failed panic tests now, but you are reducing their ld to a measly 5 within 12" of the general. So this remains largely up to you.
I've been on both sides of this match so feel free to ask away!
