Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, so I am reading in my new ogre book and noticed something interresting. The book is obviously written in the 6t ed. But let me start by saying I am not looking for loop holes and don't care either way how to play it.
In 6th ed it was that a US1 character could run around by himself and not be picked out if they were within 5" of a friendly unit unless they were the closest target. This has gone away in the 7th ed.
Now in the ogre book (page 16) it states that single ogre characters cannot be picked out if they are within 5" of a friendly (non-gnoblar) unit of 5 or more models.
This leaves room for a lot of speculation.
1) did this go away with 7th edition? I would have said yes but am not sure now because it's in the armybook.
2) if it hasn't gone away does this also include special characters like Skrag and Greasus who are both US6 but still single ogre characters.
3) Would a ogre character get that protection from a unit of DoW? Like pistoliers since they are a friendly unit that are not gnoblars. (I know this would be a stupid ruling but no more stupid then a carnosaur not being a large target and being able to hide behind skins)
I know this is all a little far fetched but I just thought it odd that this statement was in the Ogre book and therefor I would think it's a special army rule that overrules the core rules.
It was a reminder to a rule that no longer exists. It is invalid. (And what does a carnosaur have to do with anything? What about gnoblars not being small? Doesn't it seem weirder that orges can hide behind them?)
It does say the army book overrules the rule book so while it should be invalid it is a valid rule in my opinion.
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
I have actually figured it out and it is in the wording. The rule no longer applies not because it's a 6th ed rule. It is still valid because it is in the army book which trumps the rule book. However the army book says you get the same protection as a normal single character...........which is none in the 7th ed rules.
A little confusing but I found it.
he mentioned the carnosaur because sometimes GW comes out with rules that just dont make sense (usually for balance) and he thought that this could be one of these rules.
I guess they let gnoblars block ogres for gaming purposes (probably the same with skinks/carno) Ogres can get shot up badly and the army could become underpowered if ogres had no access to screening units
