This is the start of a new series, that will hopefully bring new ideas and tactics to the forums. Each week, a new topic will be posted up about a different unit in the army book. This gives you your chance to discuss the unit to its fullest. So, please leave your comment!
This week's topic is - Gorger
Do you take them? If so, why? What uses do they have? Is he really worth his points?
they are beyond great! these guys are great for disrupting enemy lines or slowing the enemy down. their combat prowess I find are often overestimated with is also great because your opponent will send something more than need ed to deal with it leaving is other flanks exposed. well worth the points.
5000 Pts of Undeath descend upon you....
Best unit in the book. Always take 2 unless I'm playing rhinox riders. Unbreakable and killing blow just means you throw them at characters and keep attacking them until you are dead or he is dead. I've had games where 1 gorger KBed 2-3 characters. I love these guys. I just got to remember to roll to bring them on the table before turn 5...

Gorger's are easily the best unit in the Ogre Kingdoms codex. Most games I play they slowly weaken a unit down and kill them, hold up ranged units for 2-3 turns, they are also great for holding up an expensive unit, though they will sometimes die... In almost every game they have easily earned their points back.
sorry for the thread necromancy but havent been on LO for a while, anywho, ive just started a skrag army,so gorgers are pretty much mandatory, unfortunatley only have 2 on order at the mo!!!!
Gorgers are a must, The main weakness for ogres is being shot by war machines and infantry. Gorgers stop this by turn three, by holding up war machine squads and wreaking havoc in the enemy. In every game i've had they've earned their points back as they hold up blocks of cheap infantry, kill war machines or demolish small elite infantry.
Weve started playing 8th ed games. Mate had a High Elf army like is in current white dwarf (50 lothern seagaurd and 2 x 20 lothern seagaurd)
3 gorgers came on and one hit each unit in rear, his shooting ended and before he killed them my bulls and ironguts charged him having taken no missile hits. I took 5 gorgers the other two dealt with bolt throwers he was not a happy chappy.
horde + volley rules are good but i think gorgers are the best unit available to hinder them and let us charge where we want. Also we can have more gorgers now 6 in 2000 pts.
if you take Skrag the Slaughterer you can take more than the 2 normally allowed.
With the new rules i find Skrag worth it now, and with the extra gorgers to mess with opponent he tends to survive.
