Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey everyone i was thinking of starting a fb army. I usually play 40k but i have been playing fb before (like 5-6th edition and that was chaos)
But i have been checking out the models and i think ogres are so cool.
But how good are they? competitive?
In my opinion Ogres are kind of a mixed bag. In my experience they can be just as formidable as any army out there but Ogres are not an "easy" army like lizards, dwarfs, or some of the empire lists floating around. Ultimately I won't expect to see them win any big name tournaments but don't count them out if you are patient and learn what your strengths and weaknesses are. I've trounced all over strong dark elves lists, been hammered by lizards, trampled by bretts, pulled out narrow victories over wood elves, even been soundly beaten by the likes of Orcs and Goblins. But I have also gutted skinned and eaten Khorne/Tzeentch Daemons lists. So don't go into it expecting anything. I find playing as Ogres to be rewarding and fun to play but their style isn't for everyone. Take it as you will.
I can't comment on their competitiveness in tournies, but they are definately alot of fun to play and totally viable as an army. I find that Ogres get stronger exponentially with bigger games. There's not much that can stand up to 18 Ironguts in a Monstrous Horde (aka "Ogre Death Star"). When that thing gets into close combat, you'll be dealing out 6 Impact hits at S6, 55 attacks at S6 and 6 Stomps at S4. If you can find anything that can stand up to that, I'll be very surprised indeed.

You'll really just have to play and experiment with them to see for yourself. I really like them, however, it depends on what you're up against. I've played against Empire and Dwarf gun-line battles...those are not fun. Then again, wrecking fact against Vampire Counts is always fun. Just like every other army, they have their strengths and weaknesses. Just have to play them to find out unfortunately.
As others have mentioned, Ogres are a mixed bag. They got a very large boost from the new 8th edition rules, and now they're one of the most amazing armies in close combat. Their Lord, the Tyrant, is especially powerful in close combat, and is one of the most dangerous non-unique Lords in the game.
That said, they still have the problem of being vulnerable to shooting, and a few of their units aren't worth taking anymore. In competitive settings, Ogres have a lot of trouble with a few specific magic spells that can cripple them completely. The most dangerous of them is Purple Sun of Xereus, which can ruin your chances of winning with a single casting. Because of that, Ogres are considered mid-tier. They can work quite well in the right hands, but they're not as competitive as the top tier armies.
For the record, the top tier right now (in my opinion) is: Skaven, Warriors of Chaos, High Elves, Lizardmen, and Empire. (Dwarves came close, but their lack of spellcasting keeps them at the top of mid-tier)
Of course, you really should play an army you like the look of, and enjoy playing. That's what's really the most important.
