Welcome to Librarium Online!
So, I am starting my Ogre Army and just got my Tyrant, but I am currently trying to figure out how to glue it. I can't decide between a Great Weapon or 2 hand weapons. I understand the differences, but I am wondering if there is any hidden pros/cons in the meta or somesuch as is common with HQ choices in 40K.
I'm leaning towards 2 hand weapons, because his Str and WS are already pretty amazing, so getting an extra attack at that is great, and it will hit before other great weapon users. But, if he has the Great weapon he'll be better at smashing REALLY tough things, but I'm not sure how often that will come up, I havn't played any Fantasy games yet.
But man, that two handed axe-morningstar is AWESOME.
Also, anything to watch for with WYSIWYG and magic items?

I am verbose. Sorry.
Kargh's Wite Butz, Death Skullz Orks: W: 5, L:, 2 D:2; Silver-skull Necrons: 1W 1L,500 pt
Pretty much no-one cares about WYSIWYG in fantasy, there are no rules about it so it's up to you if you play by that.
A great weapon is for character killing really, as it means you'll wound any enemy lord on a 2+. But with hordes on the tables nowadays, you might be concentrating more on killing lots of models so might be worth it to have the +2/3 attacks weapon to reap the corn as it were, rather than just a plain additional hand weapon.
My favorite weapon for a Tyrant is the Thundermace, simply because you can choose between character killing power, or anti-horde attacks when you choose it. Granted, its stone thrower template attack only gets one attack, and misses on a roll of 1 or 2, but you'll almost certainly get a hit within 2 turns, and most fights don't last shorter than that anyway.
My personal favorite build is the thundermace, crown of command, dragon helm, heavy armor, and perhaps some sword gnoblars if you want them. The helm is completely optional, as its basically there just to improve his armor save by a point. Fistful of laurels is also good if you don't have a BSB in the army.
If a magic weapon isn't the way you want to go, then I'd take a great weapon if he's going to be with bulls, or an extra CCW if he's going to be with ironguts. All in all, I favor the great weapon better.

I've been fiddling around recently. But the great weapons isn't too bad considering what our army book looks like. The best of our weapons are great weapons. The Thundermace is preposterously powerful against hordes (personally I don't get a chance for it see the light of day often, my most common opponents being wood elves and dark elves or gunline dwarfs). I also like the siegebreaker (especially for catching those pesky steam tanks unaware). The super strength it offers (and if you take giant breaker) makes most things shiver. Coupling this with a flying carpet makes for the most awesome/hilarious steamtank/warmachine/chariot hunter I've ever seen but isn't all that great.
Whatever that sword that gives initiative 10 is also really fantastic in the hands of an ogre. I like giving that to the bruiser that leads the bull-hoard.
The sword that grants 'Always Strikes First' is better, because it allows you to hit elves simultaneously, and you re-roll to hit against opponents with a very low initiative.
I don't think striking first is that important for Ogres though. They're very tough, with a lot of wounds, so getting the first strike doesn't matter as much for them. I'd rather give them a great weapon, to make sure they wound their opponent.
When it comes to non-weapon equipment, the Trickster's Helm combines well with Mawseeker, making them reroll wounds against T6. It also leaves you with 40 points to spend on other items (Other Tricksters, Swift Slaying, Dawnstone, ToEndurance, etc)
Mysterious Member of the ANZAC Clan
I forgot to mention the other trickster's shard. That's indeed a very nice magic item, since Ogres don't really use invulnerable saves themselves.
Personally I like to use the Sword of Bloodshed and 2 sword gnoblars, a Tyrant with 8 attacks (+2 sg) really saved my live many times
I like giving my Tyrant the Sword of strife and Giant Breaker big name. +1 strength and +2 attacks is pretty good against horde units. With heavy armour and a Wyrdstone necklace for protection. Just means I have to have a slave giant though.
I like to go for the sword of bloodshed and an enchanted shield, 2 luck gnoblars and maybe even a potion of strength to kill the really big stuff. This tyrant has armour (with 2 re-rolls) and has 8 S5 attacks and one turn 8 S8 attacks.
To represent this guy i use the paired weapon tyrant option. seeing he gets a lot of bonus attacks.
