For the 1000 pt Ogre army I'm working on, I'm using two 5-Ogre Bull units (with light armor and ironfists, standard, bellower and either a Bruiser or Butcher), a unit of 10 Trappers, and a 3-Ogre Bull unit (with light armor and clubs). The question is this: would a Gorger be a better choice than the small flanking unit? For one, I've only read good things about Gorgers, and I like the idea of not having to buy more Bulls. Will having only two "real" combat units hurt me? Any comments on this?
Depends on what you mean by 'flanking'.
If you mean something to skirt up the flanks and go lone characetr hunting / war machine hunting, then gorgers and gnoblar trappers are great choices.
If you want something to charge into a flank and negate enemy ranks, gorgers would probably not be the way to go, as they are not above unit strength 5 and would therefore not negate enemy rank bonus.

Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.
Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.

They both have their advantages, the main thing with the bulls are the impact hits that will be provided. if you plan on flanking big units, go with the bulls, if you will be war machine/ character hunting defiantly go with the gorgers because the potential to show up on the side of the board in insurmountable.
The blood of the many outweigh the blood of the few.
take the bulls over a gorger every day i feel gorgers are to expensive for what they are . just to get killed even on the way to get enemy warmachines/mages
Anything <100 points is a throw-away unit, ESPECIALLY for armies who's cheap infantry is 35 points a model.Originally posted by d w a r f@Mar 13 2005, 02:42

Gorgers start off the table so in a 1000 point army you are starting with a chunk of your army not available to use and that may not turn up for 2-3 turns. I'd go with stuff that starts on table until you are playing a bigger game.
