Welcome to Librarium Online!
Some of the armies i have seen on this site use 6 and 3 in a unit of bulls or ironguts. What i think is the best is 4 or mabye 8 if i wanna go crazy. Why would people only put 3 in the front rank when u could put 4?
Also, the ruling on rank bonus, is it 4 models in the second rank or 4 unit strength?
I would like several opinions please.

Just like everybody else.
Is it not also true that if you have a musician in the back of a unit he can't be counted for combat resolution, but he can still give the musician bonus to a unit?
Here I am, Rock you like a Hurricane.

Ogre Kingdoms 4/1/1
Word Bearers: 2/0/0
seems that 3 ogres in a unit is good as they will all get their attacks if they get to combat untouched also the unit doesnt look like a huge threat, also for the price of a big unit you can get multiple small 3 man units which combined can do the damage, while you are going cheap on the must have troops you can spend more points on those big hitters like yehtees, gorgers, ironfists and characters
friend of mine does this and it is a big shock to opponents
but in the end of it, it really is up to you how big a unit of ogres you have as it will relate back to your playing style
It depends (as does everything else) as to what you want out of your army.
Obviously, the more Ogres you have in a unit more staying power they have and the more missile fire and magic they can take - but, it gets EXPENSIVE.
If you want to take MSU's, be my guest but say for instance you have 4 Ogres and lose one to missile fire (3 Wounds) BANG! Panic test! This is often overlooked by players and with only a mediocre Ld, you might be up sh*t creek amigo!
To get the best out of the Ogres, you'll have to accept that every Joe and his dog wants to shoot you before you get within "12" and YOU WILL LOSE NUMBERS. You could screen (again expensive) but that ain't particularly Ogre-esque. Beef up some of the units for a "core" and then it's up to you. My advice is to plug the gaps with Leadbelchers and a Slavegiant and go for it!
