Is gut magic worth it? or i guess more importantly are butchers worth it? and at what point values or in what situations?
also i was wondering what models people use for their Bruisers.
Butchers are useful model that will usually augment its fellow ogres to make them more effective and can sometimes dramatically change the tide of a battle. Blus the butcher isn't one of those scawny wizards of the other armies. He can take a beatin and dish out one of his own, and points wise the butcher will cost upward of 130 points. People usually buy the Butchers boxed set at GW, while others convert one from the bulls boxed set, but be advised that the conversion (most of the time) will not look as good as the butcher in the boxed set.

If you don't take a butcher, your magic defense will be pathetic, you have to take one JUST for that, so you can atleast have 3 dispel dice and a dispel scroll or two. Even that it's still pretty low.Originally Posted by Midnight
for the bruiser model many people use the tyrant, or convert a bull by changeing his weapon and armour.
lets agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours are
I might eve use two butchers in anything over 1000... you just wont have enough defence otherwise. although if you field enough gorgers for wizard hunting, you could get away with one....
I take a butcher for the Dispel Dice and for a free hand to hold a dispel scroll, but I will admit that I have never gotten a Gut Magic spell off. No matter who I play, they have enough dispel dice to simply negate anything I try.
At least he's a truck in close-combat, though.

Gut Magic spells rock, well they do against low magic opponents. A recent opponent only fielded one level one Mage. I am finding the Bangstick and Halfling Cookbook a potent combination.
Being able to cast Stubborn (and +1 toughness) on a nearby Ogre regiment is very scary for an opponent who will outnumber the unit in combat.
I am modelling my first Butcher in Greenstuff. I dont like the GW Butcher mini, and converting a bull doesnt give the hulking size I want.
Ryan Dancey, Vice President of Wizards of the Coast, believed that TSR failed because of "...a near total inability to listen to its customers, hear what they were saying, and make changes to make those customers happy." Are you listening, Games Workshop ?
the fact that butchers cannot be generals make it hard to use the magic extensively, and the same goes for the slaughtermaster. the only way I see to make it viable is in a skragg army, as he is the general and more butchers can make it very hard to stop the gut magic from happening.
The problem is the cost of ogre characters, it's hard to field 3 characters in anything 1,500 pts or less.
If you wanted to go gut magic heavy, I'd shoot for a 2,500k list. One tyrant and three butchers will have your opponent worrying about the quantity of spells going through. Also, add the bangstick for a free cheap spell to hurl taht will eat away at your opponent's dispel pile. Other items to take: halfling cookbook, grut's hook and dispel scrolls. Gnoblar thiefstones and the greatskull are other good choices here. That's the only way I can see you fielding a GW tourney legal army.
You'll have to post up a pic of your butcher Aun, sounds quite different from all of the other butchers out there.
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.
Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.
