I'm trying to make up some fluff for my upcomming ogre army, so I'm getting to know the ogres a little better... I know a bit about the orkish mind (how it works or doesn't and how their way of thinking compares to a man's etc.) hence the title of this post: it'd be easy to learn by comparison (and I believe orcs and ogres are similar in their way of thinking, though I might be wrong). So... any of you fair Tyrants and Bruisers willing to share the knowledge about ogres' way of thinking? How smart are they? How abstract can they think? How much do they differ from one another? And of course: Who would win a chess game - an orc Boy or ogre Bull? Cheers!
The game would never resolve. At any point during the match, the ogre could belch out is last meal and tople the table, or cheap with is favorite gnoblar whispering to him.
On the other hand, the orc could always have a rage spasm and do the same, while his goblin is getting ready to stab the lucky gnoblar.
It would most likely come to fists or a feast before you would ever see a game actually played.
Ogres seem to be thinking about thier next meal before thier current one is even finished.
Well you should really be asking yourself who would win in a fight as both the Orc and the Ogre would get so angry that their tiny minds couldn't grasp the concept of chess, that they would rip each other to bits :shifty: And i think the fact that a Ogre is twice the height and like 5 times the weight of the Orc would give him the distinct advantage
I'm Useless :D
Yeah, the game of chess is too complex for their minds to handle. The way I see it you have the ogres trying to eat the "horsey" the orc trying to mash them into one piece before setup even began.
All formal disputes between orcs and ogres are settled by a vigorous game of "candyland" or "tic-tac-toe". Even these usually come down to fists.
Yeah, like everyone said, chess would blow their minds. But you could concoct some variant of chess, something simplified and brutal instead of complex and elegant. Gnoblars and goblins for pawns or whatever you call them and go from there.
King: one gnoblar/goblin on the shoulders of another.(wearing a crown)
Queen: same as above except with a dress or something of that nature.
and so on and so forth.
of course the gnoblars and the goblins would end up bickering, the ogres would end up eating some of the gnoblars and the orcs would throw themselves into the goblin riot.
as everyone has said before...this would all end up in some huge fight.

sigh. guys, the question regarded the ogre brain potential. Since its more or less common knowledge how orcs think (in bad grammar), I thought it'd be a good idea to ask the question by comparing the ogre to the orc. Just wanted to know how they think. I've only got the AB, not any of the fancy special books that may or may not be out there, and in the AB it just doesn't say too much about how abstract the common ogre thinks. However, I see youre all enjoying yourselves anyway
Well in the Ogre kingdoms book it says Ogres have minuscule brains, which seems to imply that their stupid, but they can still find enough brainpower to control tribes and land so they can't be all that dumb..

I beg to differ!!Well in the Ogre kingdoms book it says Ogres have minuscule brains, which seems to imply that their stupid, but they can still find enough brainpower to control tribes and land so they can't be all that dumb..
Ogres are dumb, plain and simple.
The "control" of their tribes is, IMO, simply and instinctual fear and respect for any ogres bigger than they are + a voracious need/desire to consume anything smaller!!
Still, they are at the same time more intellectual than simple beasts as they seem to be able to cobble together armour scraps and, well, thats about it.....
I would say that orcs and Ogres would draw in a game of chess (if they ever managed to complete a game.....aha), they are both very similiar.....its just that one is bigger than the other and one is more numerous!
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares, your a mile away and you have his shoes!!
Chuck Norris invented water
Well, it probably comes to which ogre we're talking about. I think at least greseus could play a mediocre game of chess. Where as grimgor or someone of that nature, whom would know formal strategy (errhmm but not much) could have an epic 8th grader equivalent duel among titans. Maneaters seem like they travel enough and pick up on cultures to the point they might not play a terrible game. Then again a ravager ... well lets leave that one alone
