I vote we stick to mobile suits for various reasons, not the least of which being everyone in a Gundam is a bit over the top and it avoids being stuck with playing as one of the Backstreet...er...I mean the 5 Gundam pilots from the series.

You know, if it were up to me, we would play a different storyline all together. Wing was a pretty radical departure from the normal Gundam theme. I mean, you don't see a lot of near invincible suits in most series, especially in the UC timeline. Playing celebrity-like charactetrs like that could get tiring. I was hoping for something more like 08th MS Team or the 0080 series.

And what's the difference between mobile suits and Gundams? Aren't all Gundams technically mobile suits? And aren't all the Leos and Aries are also technically Gundams, but really, really weak ones? Or was the whole 'everyone in Gundams' thing a UC thing only?

The main difference between a Gundam and a regular mobile suit is the armour.The orignal Gundam, the RX-78,was made from a lunar titanium alloy. Most mobile suits at that time where made from titanium alloy or a super hard steel alloy. Originaly a Gundam was only a Gundam because it was made of harder metal and was able to wield beam weaponry with greater efficeincy, it really only slightly outperformed a reglular mobile suit, it was generaly an exceptional pilot that made it such an uber machine.

In the AC timeline however a Gundam is a Gundam because not only is it made from an alloy called Gundanium (regular suits are still made from titanium alloys), but it generaly has some sort of advanced computer system that allows the Gundam to interface with it's pilot, making the machine like an extention of the pilot's own body. It's a bit more over the top than the original Universal Century timeline's concept, which didn't get really wierd untill they started building machines for Newtypes and mobile armours and all kinds of odd things.

In any case it's still the pilots that make most of the difference. In 08th MS team you see entire squads of Gundams get taken out by a handful of Zaku IIs and in Gundam Wing Zechs Merquise literally pilots a museum piece but still gives the Gundam kids a hard time.

what exactly is BESM?

yes in AC you can definately tell the absolute ownage of gundams over normal MS,
you can tell just by the way they hold themselves they are standing more like humans and less like machines. so a more normal storyline then?

i may add in MS and gundams from other series' maybe as a boss battle, and just say they were manufactured in that timeline, it wont be too hard to make up,
it will give us cool MS variety.
