I am playing a 500 pt warband game soon at my FLGS. I just wanted to get some suggestions (WB quick-rules: up to 2 heroes @ 150 pts combined or less, one special/one rare OR two special, only one warmachine, you have to have a minimum unit to get upgrades with a few exceptions, and a few other rules)
NG Big Boss, light armor, sneaky skewer, enchanted shield
NG Shaman, lvl 2, 1 MM
20 NGs, w/spears, 1 fanatic, full command
10 NGs, w/bows
10 NGs, w/bows
1 Spear Chukka
5 Squig Hoppers
This should be about 500 pts. I will probably be facing a VC, Lizardmen, Dark Elf, High Elf, Skaven, and maybe others as well. I will probably have to create some smaller forces at around 200, 300, and 400 as well for future games. I will probably stick to a Goblin army just to get the high numbers of troops.
Sadly my good man ur units of bow goblins arnt legal in normal terms.
NG Big Boss - Light armour, Shield, Sneaky Skewerer
NG shaman - No upgrades
30xNG - Spears, Full Command, 1x Fanatic
20xNG - Bows
5x Squig Hoppers
3x Squig Herds
504 pts (cant give u the unit ones without breaking some rules )
This gives u a fair amount of combat strength, another nice idea is dropping a squig herd and giving the shaman Nibblas itty ring to take out enemy characters
Fits ur points value limitations on Characters and will look good on the field.
In a battle of this size id not use the spear chukka as most "proper" elite units are in low numbers so the multi squig action will help u out where as the bolt thrower wouldnt fit as well and is less "night gobliny" than squigs
The only issue u have is the same as near all O+G players have, Armour penetration in depth, the Boss is decent but ur troops will bounce off knights or Iron Breakers. the squigs hitting at str 5 can take down moderatly armoured ppl well enough.
Depends how nasty ur opponents are, if they power game then you might struggle but if they play in the spirit of the game then you should be competative. Besides if u run away it was just a cunning plan to sneak in and get em while they arnt looking
(mini gobbo waaaagh)
This is a 500 point WARBAND game. So all of my units are legal. Minimum unit size is determined by base size: 1 for 40x40 and 50x50, 2 for 25x50, and 3 for 20x20 or 25x25. Also Goblins (all types) and Skaven Units which are normally 20+ unit size can have command models at 10+. I like some of your suggestions, but you should know the GW published WARBANDS rules before declaring my army list invalid.
I also agree that the squig herds are much more Night Goblin that the Spear Chukka, but I really like my hand made Chukkas and the destruction they can cause. I also don't own that many squigs herds yet....
Thanks for your advice.
Yeah, the list looks legal. My suggestion is to find a way to maybe get a couple more fanatics in, which I think could help a lot with heavy armored knightly jerkwads. Also, if you could get some really small units to just mess with people, that tends to work great. Maybe make one unit of 11 bowmen and 3 units of 3, which can just cause trouble, redirect charges, and take potshots.
You're spreading yourself a little thin by taking 2 heroes in a warbands game, though for goblins its not TOO bad. You don't NEED to take a hero at all, which would allow you to field a very large force for 500 pts (you can use a unit champ as your general). Anyways, yeah, I definitely suggest dropping one of them to add in some more fanatics, if that works for you. You also seem to be playing on what models you have, so if that is all you have... oh well, that's what you play with. I'm sure it will be fine regardless.
I was basing the number of squigs/hoppers on the figures I have. I have about 40 NG w/bows, and 80 NGs w/hw or spears. I was recommended to change the numbers of bow gobbos in another forum, if for no other reason but to ignore animosity for some of my units.
