Welcome to Librarium Online!
In an attempt to drag us kicking and screaming back to fantasy battle (and away from 40k) our local club is organizing a 250pt warbands campaign. Now i already have about 1k dwarfs painted but have decided this is an opportunity to begin assembling and painting the orcs i bought ages ago. i think the idea is to get this 250pt mini campaign done then gradually build up the forces to 1000pts.
So basically im trying to put a force together having read the orc and goblin book (quite a bit) but never having actually played a game with them. For those that dont know warbands have min unit size 3 and a total of 150pts allowed to be spent on characters. You can take one special, one rare and can only ever take one warmachine and flyer.
ok here the list (small as it is)
Orc Shaman - 100
5 x Orc Boyz - 30
5 x Orc Arrer Boyz - 30
Orc Chariot - 85
Total - 245 pts
As you can see being an dwaf player too ive gone straight for the things i always wanted, magic and chariots! Im hoping that these will be a deciding factor in a game this small. The shaman will go in with the boyz and the arrer boyz will advance along with them and get stuck in as needed also.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this list? even dropping the chariot to get some more models in there. any advice is welcome!
3 things. 1: Simply put arrow boyz aren't really worth the points. I don't think I've ever seen an arrow boy outside of the picture in the army book. If you really want something that's shooty and you plan on building up your forces go with night gobos with bows. 2: You could consider the gobo chariot. They cost less and zoom around with 9 inches of movement. 3. Orcs and Gobos can really shine in small games. The number of guys you can put on the field at once is impressive compaired to other armies.
Thanks mate, i may try and get some goblin archers in there instead. I had thought about the gob wolf chariot instead but i dont have one and unfortunately at the minute i don't have time or cash to get one (recently unemployed so a bit skint). The models i have consist of the battle for skull pass set, the army box, about 30 orc archers, 40 regular goblins, 3 trolls, a shaman, 2 spear chukkas and an extra hero on boar (making three heroes total including those in army box). The reason i had put the orc archers in there was that i hoped they would also prove effective in helping out CC at this few points, but i may now get rid of em. I could even change to a total goblin list altogether just for numbers!

Gotta love the warband rules and how they compliment O+G
First off, if you're going to run units in sets of 5, run them in sets of 2-4 instead, that way you don't have to deal with animosity. (And you aren't using rank bonuses anyway)
Lastly I'll just repeat what other people said about the archers, just run mass gobbos in groups of 4 if you want to do archers, the arr boys pretty much suck. my 250 point list looks something like
Night Gobbo Shaman Level 2 with Itty Bitty Ring - 110ish points
3 x Orc Boyz - Extra Hand Weapon 21 Points
3 x Orc Boyz - Shield - 18 points (Shaman goes here)
4 x Night Gobbo archers - 12 points
3 x Night Gobbo arhcers - 9 points
3x Savage Orc Boar Boyz /w Spear, Shield - Around 70ish points
and more Night gobbo archers to make up the point difference

In warband you can only have a 75 character on games up to 199pts, over that you can have 0-2 heroes with a total not exceeding 150pts.
Just had another look at the animosity rule and thanks for the important tip on keeping units below 5 models, had forgotten that. Thanks for the tip fool!
Think i will change the shaman to the night goblin with itty ring, i think the goblin magic may prove more deadly at 250pts, especially with essentially having 3 spells a turn. I may have to change the savage orcs though as i dont have any, or regular boar riders (they are v expensive! As i said above, recently unemployed so skint and cant afford more than i already have listed above). I'm guessing the general consensus then is that the orc chariot is too expensive and its better to go with increased numbers? im also going to get some more night goblin archers in there instead of the orc ones.
And on another quick note, what do people recommend in larger games, spider riders or wolf riders?

You could definatly change the Boar boys for a chariot, my personal opinion is really to get a Doom Diver in there, but I pride myself on being able to guess ranges very accuratly.
For larger games, take both spider and wolf riders. Really, you should have 2 units of fast cav in any game at least, and you can easily take up to 4 without being insane.
will take the advice on board and get my new list made up
warband games sound fun, where can I find rules for them? or will I have to buy a book :/
As far as which is better, spiders or wolves. It's how you play. I like the wolves better on a whole but that's me.
