Hi guys, first post on here! Have been using Orcs and Goblins in 7th with minimal success; so defected to the stunties! The sight of that huge spider brought be waaaaaagghing back tho!!!!
Here's a 2400 point list I put together. What do you think? This is a list to face all comers at my club - chaos warriors, beastmen, empire, high elves, dwarfs, deamons (ha!) and dark elves... I frequently chop and change my list about (have getting on 4000 points now) but really looking for a fixed list I can get to grips with...
Here it is:
Wazgit: Goblin Great Shaman
Wagbat: Goblin Warboss
Grimfang: Black Orc Big Boss
Scargit: Orc Big Boss
Bogrot: Night Goblin Big Boss
Fragnat: Night Goblin Shaman
Oddgit: Orc Shaman
Nagrat: Night Goblin Big Boss
Great Cave Squig
24 Orc Boys
(Orc Big Boss goes here)
Da Wonky Moonz
49 Night Goblins
(Night Goblin Big Boss goes here)
(Goblin Warboss goes here)
22 Black Orcs
(Black Orc Big Boss goes here)
5 Squig Hoppers
(Night Goblin Big Boss on Great Cave Squig goes here)
Total = 2398
I have not bothered with unit champions but gone for big bosses to lead all the units - I know that accepting challenges with unit champions can make for a better pay off - but at least the night goblins will be steadfast - and the higher ld is worth the pay off I think...
The Great Cave Squig in the unit of squig hoppers allows them to re-roll their 3d6 random movement, which makes them a little less random.
Also my wolf chariot is a scratch-built spider chariot (with a kind of mini-howdah slung between two spiders) - the spider theme has quite taken me! I've enough spider riders and metal forest goblins to replace the 49 Night Goblins with Forest Goblins (using NG rules and LD etc)... just got to get them painted. This will mean that the core force will be based around the forest gobbos with their spiders etc.
As far as the general-ship is concerned the Gobbo Warboss, BlOrc BB and Orc BB can all be the general - as they've all got Ld 8. The BSB can also be passed between the BlOrc BB and Orc BB as required.
Da big plan is to put a massive flanking force of spider-riders, trolls and squig hoppers down one side. Hold the centre with the Arachnarok, Giant, BlOrcs and Orcs. Night Goblins will be on the other flank, holding it with their fanatics and tiny annoying voices!
What do you reckon?
wohey no magic items? none? zero! nada noppes zilch!
if you can manage the points and models. I would suggest adding trolls to the troll unit to make 6. On paper 4 trolls can sound quite nice as 2 by 2 deep, but in practice the unit loses its heavy punch really fast, while 6 are quite the bulldozer and after taking hits, they remain effective longtime
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
Yeeeeesssss..... That is true. Also, got a butt whipping last night from chaos warriors. Sigwald took out the arachnarok in in turn of combat! I failed to dispel the withering so it was only toughness 3. List needs serious redraft... More trolls essential - agreed!
Something else your list needs, doom divers. Soften up the enemy b4 you smash heads (or stab em in the back). Or just pierce them from afar with 2 or more spear chukkas. Get nets for the night gobbos. It really helps.
Also, the arachnarok is a better unit for flanking and support then a combat unit on its own. Id switch the positioning of it with the night gobbos. And yes, trolls either you take 3 or take 6 like diggersays. Fighting chaos warriors.... how about black orcs with the razor banner using great weapons. That would cause a lot of damage to them. Also, since black orcs are likely to be fielded in the smallest units compared to other orc units, give a shaman the crown of command and stick him in the unit. You will have stubborn black orcs dealing attacks at strength 7 on the first turn plus armor piercing. Bye bye chaos boys.
the main problem with your list is the unit size and the fact that u have a giant
24 orc boys will do nothing against chaos warriors
consider droping the black orcs to combine them with the normal orcs and then make them big un's for a unit of 50 big un's with spears of course or drop your orcs and make the black orc unit bigger. i ran 18 chaos warriors and exaulted hero into a horde of black orcs and as soon as my guys got in there they turned and ran back out where as my other unit ran into 25 savage orcs and just slaughterd them
also drop the giant as it is useless and make you trolls into 6 and get 2 doom divers
and the night goblin shaman, you already have all the lores as your great shaman is lore master
if you just drop the giant and shaman then should be able to get 2 doom divers, 6 trolls and upgrade your unit to black orcs which will bring a world of hurt to any army
oh and btw your wolf chariots can now come in units of 3 so imagine 3D6+3 S5 auto hits on the charge all for 150 points
1 guy did that to my 18 warriors with halberds the other day and he killed 10 of them and although the goblins didnt even get to fight the damage it did was terrible as it now ment i had 8 chaos warriors running around which were just going to die if they got into combat so in effect the chariots took out a 400 point unit
If you are wanting to do a forest goblin theme, you have too many night gobbos. For a forest goblin theme i would stick to common goblins, spider riders and another arachnarok (both from the drakwald forest), river trolls (the many rivers near altdorf would be swarming with trols), no chariots (kinda hard to manouver around the trees), and most likely no black orcs (da dark lands are far away from the black pit and drakwald and reikwald forests). Thats just my take on a themed army of forest goblins. Just looked at the map on page 13 of the army book for ideas
I'm going to replace the night goblins with forest goblin models, but I think the lower leadership reflects them spending their time skulking about in woods - if they have to leave the trees they het a bit nervous! Also the wolf chariot is like a mini howdah version of the arachnarok. I've just finished converting some squig hoppers too - using the spider riders. They are forest goblin jumping spiders!! They look pretty neat. Another arachnarok would be sweet tho! As far as black orcs go - I know what you mean... But I got 30 of em now and since they're one of the only trustworthy things in the army I feel kinda weird leaving them out!!!
The other stuff I have is a second giant (I was running a two giant list in 7th); a warboss on wyvern; 5 boar boys; boar chariot; another 20 ng's with bows; altogether I have 40 orcs (so another 15 I think); up to 30 black orcs; 5 wolfboys; up to 40 spider riders; a 10 squig, 6 herder squig herd. Think that's about everything!
I kept on buying new stuff when I couldn't get one list to work!!!!
I knowwhat you mean about the black orcs. I love them too lol. You must post pics of your converted chariot and squig hoppers. Im really curious as to what those look like
40 spider riders you say? you should at least have 20 of em in your rmy list.
