I have plenty of NG in my Army due to all the skull pass models out there, and so I decided to put together a list that is just meant to maximize the random craziness and fun factor one can have with O+G, while also possibly squeezing out a victory if things go well. (as the most crucial strategy in a NG army should be : "I hope my dice roll well")
The main critique I am looking for is whether or not these units are feasible and whether or not the list will be "fun" based on playing experiences with or against NG
Lords - xx Pts
NG Warboss + Great Weapon
Heroes - 215
NG Big Boss with BSB + Banner of Discipline NG Shaman, lvl 1 + Dispell Scroll NG Shaman, lvl 1 + Power Stone (he might get off the Vortex ... who knows)
Core - 953
40 NG with Standard. HW and Sh + 2 Fanatics 39 NG with Standard. HW and Sh + 3 Fanatics 39 NG with Standard. HW and Sh + 2 Fanatics 38 NG with Standard. HW and Sh + 2 Fanatics
25 NG with Musician. Shortbows + 1 Fanatic 25 NG with Musician. Shortbows + 1 Fanatic
Special - xxx
10 Squig Hoppers 10 Squig Hoppers 10 Squig Hoppers
Rare - 410
2 Mangler Squig 4 Snotling Pump Wagons - Out Riggas, Spikes
Total - 1999
The tactics of this Army are to align the 4 blocks of NG together in the center with one unit having the Warboss and the Banner of Discipline to get the Ld boost. I will deploy the two shortbows units in front of the blocks of NG with Hand Weapons on the sides so they can block flyers and fast cavalry that are vying to unleash all of the fanatics (at least for a while). And I will organize the squig hoppers, manglers, and pump wagons into the flanks to speedily move up and cause a lot of havoc on the enemy - chasing down shooty units and war machines who won't be able to stand and shoot due to all these units random movement rolls, hopefully they kill some things and maybe even enough to win the battle.
I am mainly concerned with how people think this list will play out when faced against magic heavy armies - but the point isn't so much as to win as much as it is to cause serious havoc, have fun, and give the NG a chance to maybe squeeze out a win if things go well.
Tell me what you think
Hah! Looks like a fun list. I especially like the use of 4 Pump Wagons.
One thing I would say is that it may be more beneficial to have your Shaman as level 2. You should be able to find points somewhere (maybe docking a few Gobbos here and there?)
Why no lvl 4? he's damn cheap anyway + more chance for the vortex. Note that units with the standerd of discipline don't benefit from your generals leadership. You also have 0 flame or magical attacks so hydra's, hellpits and ethereals and stuff will beat you forever. Maybe banner of eternal flame and a cheap magic waeapon on your general solves this problem. I'll make a list like this too sometimes
Dennis: Aye, but if he puts the general in the unit with the Std of discipline the General gets +1LD which, obviously, boosts his inspiring presence. The unit 'with the banner' doesn't need to use his inspiring presence as he's in the unit so get his raised LD anyway.
Other than that, aye, what Dennis said. You need more Magic. Two spells wont be useful. It's predictable and not all that effective. You need at least 1 more spell in your list to make use of good winds of magic rolls and to stop your Magic being predicable. Either upgrade a Shaman to a LVL2 or ditch them both in favour of a LVL3. Chucking the Ring of Ruin is awesome for some flaming attacks.
Why not take a common Gobbo Warboss? +1LD is pretty handy. With the Banner of Discipline it means you get LD9 gobbos!
