When it comes to O&G lists, I've seen everything from practically no magic on up. While the ladz are nothing to scoff at with little magic, I have found that taking a goodly amount of casters can create serious problems for many opponents, as they find themselves struggling to contain the vast array of nastiness brought forth.
So how much magic do you guys think is right in an average 2k list?
I haven't played very much at all... but I'm going with a lvl2 and a lvl 1.... gobbo and orc respectively.
“You know wot the chain o’ command is? It's the chain I go get and bash you wiv 'till you understand who's in ruttin' command round here.”
Two level 2s should be ok, as long as you have the bounds spell horn of leadershipyness and the bound 'eadbut . That will give you quite a few spells a turn and you won't sacrifice any Orc awesome melee prowess. I wouldn't go for a level 4 because the warboss is just so badass. A black orc big boss to help with animosity and add some punch to an important unit is another reason to only take 2.
The Night Goblin Sahman is a must due to his ability to consume a mushroom that allows him to increase the chances of the spell to succeed. Also consider a Savage Orc Shaman with Waaagh paint and the Staff of Baduum. Both are Lv 2 wizards.

Smart people outsmart each other
And I... Play guitar and write folk songs
Well, this doesn't really respond to your original question, but when it comes to greenskin casters for level 2 wizards I prefer Orc shamans myself. The majority of the Big Waaagh! spells are easier to cast than the Little Waaagh! spells.
I think for my next greenskin army I might try a night goblin great shaman, an orc shaman, and 2 big bosses (a close combat one and a BS.
Or, a warboss, and 3 lvl 2 casters (one of which might be a goblin loaded with magic mushrooms)
I just like the Little Waaagh! magic so much.Mostly because I once had a night goblin shaman with one dice left, so I gambled and used a magic mushroom to irresistibly cast Mork Wants Ya! on a dwarf thane. It was awesome.
Then he miscast the next turn and I rolled snake eyes. All in the fun of the unpredictable nature of the greenskins I guess =P
"I am the architect of fate!"
I would go with a lvl2 orc and a lvl 2 gobbo, and make sure to give em some good magic items, like a bound spell or 2. Also, couldn't hurt to take a power stone on one or both of em.
Agreed, War Boss Ghark- take a night gobbo shaman over a normal gobbo shaman, admit it, you're not getting it for leadership. And magic mushrooms work a treat for getting some of those not-so-easy-to-cast spells. And they work well with power stones.
