where i play there are i most likely play against skaven and vc allot. i was wondering what are good tactics to use against these army's. and how much magic should i bring in a 1500pt or less game.

I play against the Skaven quite a bit as well as the Vampire Counts, although we usually play small quick games, usually 750 pts. I usually grab a level 2 Night Goblin Shaman to take to the battle as well as a Black Orc Big Boss.

Magic-wise the Shaman usually holds his own against a Warlock Engineer or a Necromancer. If you can get The Foot of Gork or a spell like that to cast, and take some magic mushrooms as well you'll do ok.

Another thing that works great against what will surely be lots of rats coming at you are the Night Goblin Fanatics. The Skaven have a high move and the Fanatics are great for stopping a charge.

You might look at getting a pair of Spear Chukkas too as they are really handy against units with lots of models.

i usually take one level two night goblin shaman and a level two orc shaman. never really used any of the magic items or enchanted items are any thing like that. just straight up magic im just now getting used to the basics. but i usually get blown away by these two armies. could be to my beginner status too.
