Welcome to Librarium Online!
My Girlfriend just gave me a bunch of Orcs for my Birthday.
I like the idea of Orc Bosses riding into battle on a chariot but not sure how effective it would be. I was reading through the forum but could not find anything about Orc Characters in Chariots.
Obviously you would want a screen to get them into combat as everyone would shoot at them but if you got them into combat they could be quite deadly.
Your lady friend rocks.
Characters in chariots are nasty good when screened, thrown into combat as soon as possible and given the right gear (porkko's, etc).
I never put characters in chariots. My orcy blood simply pales at the thought of a targetable general who can be sniped by magics, cannons or the like. Plus for the Waaagh! the unit of rank and file troops he is with auto succeed so I'd hate to lose that.
It is Warhammer so anything works. Try it out for a few games, see if you like it or if it works for you. Game well, orcs and gobbos are too much fun!
for what its worth
Cool - thanks for the response. I will give it a try but have to agree with the worry on getting my Generals head blown off - kinda loses the Waaagh effect on the rest of the troops.
Thanks for the reply.
Like Semer said, it can be done, but there are some things to keep in mind.
-Don't make this dude your General - he'll be too far away from the rest of the army too much of the time and extremely vulnerable to bad luck (crappy dice rolls, a lucky cannon shot, etc.).
-If I remember correctly, a character in a chariot has unit strength 5 - this is both good and bad. It's good because you can pull off a flank charge, do your impact hits, deny rank bonus and get +1 for flanking - it's bad because denying said rank bonus makes Porko's Pigstikka useless.
I tend to use chariots in tandem w/other units. A chariot can do massive damage to a unit solo, or you can botch your impact hits and get destroyed by static combat res. A character in a chariot.... I can see being most useful if you bring him into the flanks of a unit already
held up by a nice sturdy brick of Orc Boyz - between your static combat res, the impact hits, and the negation of the enemy's rank bonus you should be able to rock a whole lot of units this way.
Two's to kill. Ahh, sweet sweet music.
good call mate - a hero in a chariot isn't a bad idea at all... i fear i have gotten my mind locked into 2250 thinking of late which means 1 L general, 2 H shamans, 1 H bsb... no room in there for a chariot bound hitty orc...
and again, if i had a spare H slot i'd throw one into my unit of savage boar boys... i like having my chariots/hops/pumps as dispensable as i can, that way if they're ignored they get to smash in and rout expensive units and if they're targeted the enemy wastes maneuvering, magic, shooting, etc on inconseuqnetial points... such as this brings me no end of joy on the 4x6 battlefield...
in my 2250 list i tend to have only a single chariot of the gobba variety... that 18" charge range and el cheapo value are simply irresistable to me : ) plus the orc chariot takes up battleline frontage and will lag behind with only a 7" move...
anyway, characters in chariots aren't my cup of tea but as mentioned if you have a free H slot lying around, throw one in there see how it goes for ya : D
Thanks for the input guys - much appreciated.
get a few "krak" units to split up enemy fire. Whenever i use an orc lord in chariot or on a wyvern i use 2 giants as well. This is a fast army that has a few units that get in quickly. They have to split up their fire or risk getting hit hard by everything. Its helpful but not fool proof. If they focus your general, you are dead anyway, however og has a lot of fast cav taht can screen.
Don't put your general on a chariot, put a big boss on it. I use a savage orcs big boss on a chariot and he is awesome. He either gets targeted and leaves my army general free to hit stuff or he gets into a fight and does pretty damn well all by himself
