Many years ago I played a person with a Giant. I was playing LM and had some skinks behind a hil that the giant moved up to. Ofcourse I planned on taking poison shots at the giant but the person I was playing against asked for a hard cover save. In the spirit of the tourney and trying to shield my sports score I agreed but do you?
Thinking about it now what else would give a gaint hard cover? maybe a house?
I think it sounds like crap. No cover for a hill.
I suppose a strip of scree, a wall tall enough to obscure him maybe, ruins that don't block line of sight? Maybe something like that? Obviously, he won't be walking in the woods or anything.
a giant getting hard cover? that is the biggest load of [insert appropriate word here] i have ever heard. i would never give a giant hard cover. there is nothing a giant can skulk in to avoid shots, it is ridiculous, you should have just got a referee and asked him, then give the opponent a good old shouting at for being a prick.
"yes, why not?"
The best answer you can give in this situation. If your opponent needs to cheat to win, then at the end of the day you can hold your head up high in the knowledge that you played fairly and to the best of your abilities. That response always gains my respect.
funny you say that because he did cheat on several other occaions. They were things that you would only know if you were intimate with the army he was playing. Crazy thing about this is he won a GW painted Skaven army at this tourney he and I were at the head table when this happened.
For instance his giant fled 3d6 (this was back in the day that only O&G had giants).
Also for certain roles he would role the dice differently. I believe the term is Dice -Fu. It's something I didn't really know aobut untill I read an article some months later.
That being said he organizes a GT and runs a club. He moved out of our area and is now pushing his wares in Ohio.I think maybe some ruines or a house or something but I agree that a hill wouldn't do it.a giant getting hard cover? that is the biggest load of [insert appropriate word here] i have ever heard. i would never give a giant hard cover. there is nothing a giant can skulk in to avoid shots, it is ridiculous

If the giant were behind a large ruin so that a large portion of his body was obscured, then go for it, he's in hard cover. However, the ruins would have to be pretty tall for me ever to ask for cover.that would be more of a line of sight reducer, remember that cover is from being inside things, not behind them, exceptions being palisades and hedges.
i personally can't imagine anything offhand that would count as hardcover for a giant, i mean, normally a house or a wall might count as hardcover for your troops but a giant? he towers over them. Maybe in a really dense forest with trees that would resemble a redwood but even thats extremely unlikely. I could see some kind of Soft cover but not hardcover.
Also seeing as to how skinks are giant slayers i could see that particular situation being his way of weaseling out of a rock and a hard place.
