Im building a O&G army, but im mostly staying goblins. ONly getting black orcs and possibly boar boys in on my army as well as Grimgor iron hide.... Anyway I just had a couple questions about equiping goblins with weapons.
So first question. Why can goblins not have hand weapons. I mean in the codex it says they come with a hand weapon, but in the box you dont get any right?! What if you were in a WYSIWYG you cant just say the spears are hand weapons. The only thing i can think of is getting night goblin hand weapons and using them on the normal goblins. but im not sure how it will look
Also spears only fight in two ranks when being charged right? Just wanted to be sure on that.
Can you line up your bowmen or any unit for that matter in one single line (no ranks). I have the goblins from Skull pass and might put the bowmen to use by making them in one long line for maximum shooting even though they will get killed in combat if they are charged. It might be cheesey as heck but if it works hey.
Now the best part of any goblin army SQUIGS!!. In my list im taking hoppers and herds.. My question is with the herds. How exactly does the releasing work. Do they move two D6 or do they move 8 inches? And you get to pick the direction for the first turn right. I have the codex but it doesnt exactly say how it works.
THanks! And sorry for all the questions. I havent played Warhammer in a couple years. and now I only play sparingly and when my bro comes to visit from college

Sry for double post, but does anyone know about the goblin hand weapons?
The new Night Goblins sprue does in fact come with hand weapons. It is the older edition (and also Battle for Skull Pass of course) that only have spears.
What I do is use "real" handweapon goblins for the front two ranks, and then skull pass goblins with the shaft of the spear clipped off behind them. Looks fine, nobody has any problem with it.The rule is they fight with one less rank than normal if they moved during the same turn. You can charge, fight with one rank, then have two ranks in subsequent turns of combat. Also spears only fight in two ranks when being charged right? Just wanted to be sure on that. You can, although you're not going to fit too terribly many 16" wide regiments onto the board. Or hit with all of them on many targets given their max range is only 16" to begin with! =) Not exactly 'cheesey' in my book. Can you line up your bowmen or any unit for that matter in one single line (no ranks). I have the goblins from Skull pass and might put the bowmen to use by making them in one long line for maximum shooting even though they will get killed in combat if they are charged. It might be cheesey as heck but if it works hey.
With herds, you don't get to choose to release them. It just happens automatically if they lose combat. They don't move, they just affect everybody in the area you roll for.
thanks for the help. Actually I was talking about normal goblins for the hand weapons. I think I ll just bitz order some night goblin hand weapons and put them on the normal gobbos and hope it doesnt look bad. So for the squigs, you can charge them into combat, then when they lose they do the 2D6 scatter? Codex doesnt cover it as well

Octavion, night goblins have dark robe sleeves. Regular goblins are more like "mongolian warriors" in look/shape...Make sure you check the actual shape of the arm with spears you are ordering before plopping them...
I know the night gobbos have robes, thats the only concern there is with it. If the robed arm will look too wierd on the normal gobbo body. The only other thing I can think of is cutting the spear tip off, shortening the spear shaft, and then gluing the spear tip facing forward so its like the night gobbo spiked club things
Alright, this is a different topic than my thread, but i didnt want to open up a new thread. So, Skarsnik and Gobbla. I want to put him in my army list, I was originally thinking of putting in grimgore with black orcs. but that ruins the goblin effect and takes up way too many points. SO, anyway I want to put him in a unit of 20 spearmen (hand weapon and shield gobbos wont be as good with him since the gobbos will not get armor saves when a strong unit hits me, hopefully the extra attacks could maybe cause a wound... or not ). SO in the unit of 40 night gobbo spearman, im giving the unit nets. and putting in three fanatics. If the fanactics dont work too well, would the nets work againts the fanatics? or can i shoot the fanatics with skarsniks prodder?
Since 7th edition you cant attack your fanatics.
dang that sucks.
sorry double post.. By the way does anyone know if on the normal night gobbo with hand weapon box set. Do the left arms come with the shield attached? or do you have to glue the shield to the arm. Im trying to order them to save me around $20
