Transferring a question from the general forum to the experts!
So in the other forum, was looking to get a feel for which army to start as I take up the hobby. On the short list was O&G, but not just any ol' greenies: I'm specifically interested in Night Goblins, with all the wild weird wonderfulness possible in terms of as many Fanatics, Squg Herders, Squig Hoppers and other disruptive elements as possible.
Because it sounds like it'd be a hoot to play.
On the other hand, losing all the time isn't much fun, either.
Is the above army concept reasonably viable? Sure, there are a lot of random factors involved, but could an army like that stand a decent chance in any given game?
I know that's not a lot to go on, but I also figure those who play would have a feel for lists that have no hope of winning. Not asking if the army would dominate all comers, but just looking for something that starts with an even chance, then let the squgs hop and the fanatics whirl where they may.
i didn't quite get what you were asking but i think it was: Are Night Goblin armies useable?
I use mainly night goblins, the only problem is that they need some muscle to back them up and some speed to get the shooters.
Squig herds are amazing. for 30 points they absolutely maul anything they can touch. the only problem is getting far away from them when they run wild. i use 5 herds in one unit 5 x 5 big.
fanatics are good at infantry breaking but if a flyer goes by they run run your units through. in a night goblin army they can make you get the charge. the enemy will not charge through the fanatic but 15 odd points is nothing in a goblin army so you can.
Trolls and giants are the muscle you can use. Trolls are better at surviving then the giant and if they are stone trolls the only fire attacks against them are dwarf fire attacks i think...Giants are just brutal if you get them into combat. i managed to take out a unit of 16 ghouls with 1 giant including when they dragged it down (fell on them).
Hope this helps...
And whats 15 points? I know its not a fanatic.
In an all NG army, surely giants are better, low ld is bad for trolls stupidity.
There are plenty of fire attacks out there. To list a few; flaming weapons, skaven weapons(not 100% sure about them), lore if fire magic.
There's a whole plethora of info on here at the moment, I recommended these threads:
to leafwalker yesterday, they should be of help to you too.
a flyer can zoom over all your gobbos at once triggering all you fanatics to wizz around in front of you so they are in your way. What do you mean about the flyer, its not clear.15 points of gobbos when you charge through the fanaticAnd whats 15 points? I know its not a fanatic.
3-4 gobbos is nothing in a unit of 30-40
Anyway, thanks all for the help and encouragement!
yup flyer comes within 8", it lands, fanatic goes out, flyer continues, lands, fanatic, continue (unless the fanatic goest through the flyer when it is released (aka rolls over 8") the flyer can fly over the fanatic when it continues it's move.
Painting: 20 quarrelers
Seems a risky move from the flyer's POV, depending on the situation.
