I don't play O&G, but I play Ogres so I am a distant cousin, but I witnessed a game between my friends, O&G versus Dark Elves..
My friend let loose his fanatics who all seemed to move less that 8 inches on 2d6.. so on the Dark elf players turn he took his 5 harpies and landed them on the fanatics in such as way that they would spaz out and die..
I guess my question is, can you just land a unit of skirmishers on fanatics to kill them? it seems silly.. I understand if an infantry block lands on them though..
i assume so yes but the harpies take damage too
The skirmishers would just be treated as a normal unit, taking 2D6 hits in total.
Best thing is to release the fanatics using the furies in the first place.. by landing behind the gobbos!
And a small unit may be about 50pts, but they're being used to get rid of a unit half their cost. So the fanatics are making back double their cost, as well as removing a tactical unit from the enemy

Although im not positive how fliers flying over a unit are affected by fanatics coming from that unit lol. (not like theyd actually stop, go to ground, get hit then carry on... but since when did rules make sense? )
Actually yeah, when you come within 8inches the fantastics are released, and "fliers land".
Well the two ways you have to look at in thecase of fliers is that the unit is flying remotly close to the gorund and the unit of night goblins upon seeing the unit hurl with all of their might the fanatic to try and hit the fliers. After that the fanatics spin so fast they gain flight.
Isn't That Just Peachey
That is indeed one way to look at it =]
I like to think they just hurl abuse at the fliers and taunt them to come closer :p
