I myself am not a O+G commander, although I do like to let out an occasional WAAAGGGHH!
once and then. I am here to post a list that my friend used that seems like an extremely competitive list. I have yet to play against it with my DE's but he massacred a pretty decent ogre player this weekend.
From what I remember he had Azhag and several large units of NG. They had a banner that transfered stubborn to units around it. Coupled with his leadership of 9 these guys were one of the most reliable anchors I've seen. This was the jist of the army, and while he had many other parts to his army I was amazed at the genius of this tactic.
He might have been misusing his banner. The only banner that confers stubborn is the bad moon on a stick and that only confers stubborn to the unit that it is in.
Might wanna point that out to him.
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
If I'm Schizophrenic
Then I am too!
Or I could have just misunderstood the concept. Ill get back to you guys.
Ok as expected it was my misunderstanding. It was a banner that allowed units to reroll failed panic/leadership tests. Not too sure which it was. But nonetheless I was still shocked by its efficiency to hold a line together.
in theory, if the die rolls go your way, anything will hold together.
Haha well of course, but form a LD of 5 to a LD of 9 with Azhag there is quite a difference. All I'm saying is I found something that other O&G generals may want to consider. Worked well against a fear causing army so...
Said banner, Rowdy Grott's Big Red Raggedy Banner, is re-roll panic tests only, not leadership tests. And for that matter, break tests either since break tests are not panic tests. Break tests can cause Panic in other units (friendly unit of at least US5 breaking from combat within 6"), but you cannot re-roll the break test with the banner. Of course, odds are you have the banner on a BSB, which of course allows re-roll of break tests.
But yes, Ld8/9 with re-roll when it comes to Panic, from Skarsnik, Azhag etc. is quite decent.
