Just a real quickie, Can this spell be cast on enemy chariots? My friend plays warriors of chaos and they have some nasty chariots i'd like to take out with this spell. And if it can be cast on them, do they auto fail their Initiative check since its a null value on chariots? Or do they test with the crew's initiative? If there's a character in the chariot do they test with the highest (I) availible? Thanks!
First up, anything without an initive value autofails the check (this includes warmachienes and I believe stanks).
Second you can target any *model* on the table thats in range.
So yes you should be able to target the chariot, yes it autofails its test without an init score, and then if you do at least 1 wound to it it pops because its higher than S7 attack.
Now I know the chariot crew is destroyed with the chariot, but I believe any character in them is unloaded (might take a hit/wound or something I dont have the book on me)
Honestly though banking on getting this spell against WoC is asking a lot, since the chances of getting it with a level 2 mage is about 1/3, so you need 3 level 2 mages to really confidantly say you'll *probably* get the spell. Try not to think about fielding a level 4 gobbo shaman too, it won't end well.
Oh and then there's the problem of actually casting the spell with a level 2 shaman, doesn't it go off on like a 11+?
Don't base a gameplan around it, its just not gonna happen if you force it, like witrh all things OnG. It is a valid use of the spell however, and one that I do enjoy using to eat enemy war machines.

The more expensive High Elf Dragons have lower I than the less expensive ones... The "biggest" has I 2...

I would play it that the chariot uses the crews initiative. I dont have my rulebook on me for page references but its the same thing as when attacking a chariot in close combat you use the crews weapon skill. The chariot, in game terms, isnt just the wooden structure but also the crew and steeds pulling it. Thus when targeting the chariot you are also targeting the crew which has an initiative value.

"If a model has to take a test for a characteristic that has a value of 0 on its profile, it will automatically fail the test." page 5
To me this seems pretty clear, chariots/warmachines autofail.
